Need Experts Advice on Dosage Index of 31.00

Postby horsehelper4 » Wed Nov 09, 2005 8:22 am

:?: One of my mares has a DI of 31.00

Understanding that this is calculated on sire points in the pedigree, I have never seen one this high. Good or Bad? A mistake? Just started working Thoroughbreds last year and still somewhat confused about Dosage Index.

Any insight on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and soo sorry to hear about Meadowlake. He's the broodmare sire of my stallion.

Thanks again for your time.

To Meadowlake!

What's your mare's name?

Need help with Dosage Index of 31.00

Postby horsehelper4 » Sun Nov 13, 2005 4:58 am

Thanks for the response.

My mares name is TR's Peanut

"Theodore Roosevelts's Peanut"

Theodore Roosevelt had a broodmare name Peanut and I think my mare descends from that family.?

Thanks again, any help would be great. I have learned that my stock has MULTIPLE, I mean ALOT of Chef-de-Race list sires on their pedigree and this could have something to do with it.

Appreciate it and looking forward to your response.

Hi horsehelper

The dosage numbers for your horse would indicate a 4 or 5 furlong sprinter with little or no stamina. This is based on Dr. Romans classifications of the chef-de-race sires found within the 4 generation pedigree of TR's Peanut. These numbers ignore any female contributions.
The conduit mare profile does indicate an early maturing sprinter type, but with a lot of stamina influences as well. 13-2-6-2-5 (15/17) (1.89) (21-10-13). Tail female to the conduit mare, Skyscraper (1900) (B/P), who has a lot of descendants that have done very well over the jumps.

Thank you for your opinions! Yea, I did learn that she ranked higher on the sprinter side. My other mare is the grandaughter of Northern Dancer and will, I am thinking; breed more on the stamina side. I have them bred to my stallion, Magic Ruby, by Magic Meadow, by Meadowlake for 06' and hopefully one will take me to the Kentucky Derby, lol. Badda Bing Baby! We can never give up our dreams right? Oh yea, I can't afford the stallions I really want out there, but I found a good boy in mine.

Thanks again,

Billye
