Pedigree Analysis-

Postby Marli » Thu Nov 17, 2005 2:51 am

Anyone care to analyze this horse?

Name is Mac's Ghost.

If one were to consider a mating to him, what type of mares (pedigree) would do well? (Strictly curious) Thanks!

Have you examined what worked w/ his sire & dam? Off the top of my head - didn't his sire like returns of Double Jay. Obviously Beau Genius liked duplications of Northern Dancer as well. Your boy already has that - many would probably say do it again. He also has Buckpasser in his distaff, which appears to have worked more than once w/ BG.

He's a good-looking guy!

PanZaretta,

THANK YOU for the response! I like my fella too! :)

He's not a big boy, built refinely (as you can see in his pics). I'd love to know where he got his *tiny* little 'fox' like ears from!

My first guess would be Princequillo. :)

Wow - I just looked at this Princequillo and sure enough, he does have tiny ears too, not quite a tiny as Mac's, but they're strikenly similar in build and resemblence (the refined boned build). Didn't imagine that genetic traits could be that strong through the bloodlines... Thanks!

Marli, I've never seen a photo of Quill, but two of Princequillo's other most productive daus., Key Bridge and Somethingroyal, had those short, curly, foxy ears, as do many of their descendants. This is probably one reason why some people informally associate them w/ the large heart trait. I've no idea how valid that association might be, but can tell you that our 25yo QH broodie has the same type of ears & based on ecg & sonogram was heart scored at 130+.

He is gorgeous Marli! I agree about the small ears/large heart theory. Small, curly ears are suppose to be "markers" for the gene. There is also something about the eyes. I would have to look that up. Also, sent you a PM.

Wow - still learning something new. I didn't know about this small ear thing/large heart correlation. He truly does have the tiny 'fox' like ears with a bit of a curl towards the ends. Have no idea about the eyes, but he's got HUGE doe eyes, very expressive. I actually bought him on his appearance, he's built refined, has a tiny head (although you CAN tell he's a stallion, his jowls are defined), and his little bitty ears! You can't really tell from his pics, but his head very much resembles an Arabian by size. He IS a tough fella for sure.

He's not been used to breed (but he definately KNOWS what the opposite sex is!). I really didn't know if he'd be worthy.

You guys talking about Rocking Trick?? He has the nice short curly ears, that gorgeous head with a wide forehead, large liquid eyes... and ran 1000m in 54.33 seconds so maybe a very big heart, too...

OMG. I hadn't seen that photo of him. That is one magnificent looking stallion. Lovely head. Powerful shoulder. Beautiful hip w/ clearly defined Nearco strip. He's got the ears - and looks to have great bredth of chest. (Thank you, Terlingua.)

Chief's Crown had those ears too.
