Anyone care to analyze this pedigee?

Hi Derring,

In what regard?

Clabber Girl was an excellent race mare (G1 winner at 5) of over $1,000,000 but a notable dud in the shed.

What made her special? Why hasn't she produced well? Why did she do so much better than her siblings? Are there other examples of this cross that have done well?

Hi Derring,

Look at the race and production record of Genuine Risk and Wonders Delight (only 2 examples). Look at Cheyenne Birdsong's production and then that of her daughers. If I could answer it in a post I could command $10,000/hr :). This is a site that puts a lot of emphasis on 'paper' breedings. They have their place but there's a lot more involved.

I commented (elsewhere) about Solvig, a G3 winner in foal to Smarty Jones (sold for $950k) was to be bred to Afleet Alex this year. With a War Chant and Giant's Causeway on the ground she's been bred to 4 stallions that are either unproven or lack sustained proof of success. Every one was unproven when they bred to her and their fees high.

If Solvig is a successful mare it will be in spite of her connections who have made her ability to prove herself more difficult than it needed to be. Commercially she will carry an unproven stallion but not forever.

They could have chosen Pulpit (look at a hypo mating - female tails to Missy Baba), Dynaformer, Smart Strike etc. in the same price range to give her the best chance of showing her worth, retaining the value of the mare and seeing her real quality.

Regards,

Pete
