Lost a filly

Postby amanda1 » Tue Feb 20, 2007 7:10 am

Well our Dynaformer mare lost her Limehouse filly sometime last night, we found her at 4:30 this morning. She wasn't due unitl April 7, showed no signs of any distress, hadn't bagged up or anything. Fortunately she's doing just fine and is no worse for wear.

We are so disappointed. We are really trying to make this mare. She's a nicely bred mare and she has a real shot of throwing a quality runner. Her first foal was a Langfuhr, he's now a 2 y/o, and we have her '06 Quiet American filly here on the farm, she's stunning.

We were just getting ready to ship her to Lexington this week so she could be there 6 weeks before she was due. The worst part is that she is booked to North Light and we have a foal sharing deal with Adena, and part of the contract requires that she be kept at Adena after being bred, so I will seldom see her for the next year.

We still have some mares that will foal here in Ohio.....hopefully all of you guys will have happy babies! Good luck to everyone....

Amanda,
Sorry for the lose of your foal. It just seems so unreal sometimes when you think everything is well. Hope your mare is doing ok.

Amanda1 - so very sorry for you loss! It is heartbreaking I know. We lost a Street Cry several years ago the same way - no words can make it better. It just sucks!

HUGS to you (and to momma mare too).

Our reproduction vet came out and said mom seems to be in pretty good shape. We had tissue samples taken of both the placenta and foal to see what we could find. At this point we are thinking that mom isn't to blame, when the vet opened the filly to take the samples there was a lot of hemmoraging. So chances are baby had already died and that's why mom aborted, at least I hope so....that's easier to accept than the foal having had a chance. Thanks for the kind words.

I love foaling season.....I hate foaling season!!!

So sorry, Amanda. It's always the ones you anticipate the most that abort, it seems. :(

Sorry to hear of your loss especially after all the months you've already spent waiting. Hopefully the mare's other progeny that you have will succeed in all they do!
