Not For Love

Postby dray33 » Thu May 31, 2007 11:21 am

Is he a "good" stallion? Fairly priced at 25k? Just wondering if anyone knows about this stallion...

Thanks.

I would say he's a good regional stallion. Im not sure he's worth the 25k on his accomplishments at stud alone, but his 2yo's sell well.

I bring it up because I was playing with potential "dream matchings" for my filly, BRUSHED BAYOU. Forgettting the physical nature, the type of mare she will one day be, and talking stricty "pedigree", mating her to NOT FOR LOVE presents a fascinating effect.

I think that fullfills the Rasmussen factor:

Anyway, just looking and thought that was interesting.

It certainly gives you the RF but so does a pairing with Bluegrass Cat who will be very commercial and should sell well out of a young, stakes winning Broad Brush mare.

I would also add that Bluegrass Cat is heavily inbred and has almost all the major commercial sire-lines, but your mare will be one of the few who brings in an almost complete outcross pedigree to him, excluding the desired Numbered Account and Nearctic.

In my openion Not For Love is much more than a good regional stallion:

[1] he's the product of Mr P and a multiple G-1 stakes winning daughter of Northern dancer.. I don't know where else you can find that. kind of up close breeding to the 20th centry's two most important stalliosn.

[2] At present he holds the 2007 title for high selling get.. I believe Storm cat @ $500k per mare has a 2007 median or maybe it's a 2007 avearge of $500k each while the Not For Love with a $25k fee has a median or acerge of $600K plus

[3] He's doing all of this with Mid Atlantic mares.

Personally I don't understand why he was not moved to Kentucky with a kentucky feee long ago; i.e., a coly from his first crop sold for over $3 million back when $3 million was a lot of money

He's certainly a big fish in a small pond, but he would be hard pressed to sustain much hype in Kentucky. His numbers are good, but when compared to similar types, even in the mid-Atlantic, they're not heads and tails better.

And I wouldn't focus too much on him leading the auction price list just yet. If he can sustain that into September, then you have something to crow about, but we all know that wont happen. Furthermore, one year, Scatmandu lead the list after a big 2yo. Enough said...

It's really a shame there isn't a viable Capote son at stud. That would give the RF you really should be searching for. I seem to remember Hidden Talent being one of the RF's that have proven most successful.

Numbered Account

Postby hpkingjr » Thu May 31, 2007 8:15 pm

When I checked the inbreeding section on Numbered Account, there were 20 horses, with 2 stakes winners. One by Not for Love, Coquettish, (Not for Love ex.Chemise by Secret Hello (Private Account). 10% stakes horses are fine but it appears that Not For Love is 1 for 9 from the 20 or 11%. Not really enough numbers for me to form an opinion pro or con.

I might just keep looking.

Marvin

Even if NFL's market price status slides to forth or fifth place he's still out producing a vast majority of the Kentucky stallions at a fraction of their fee and with mid Atlantic mares.. Where else can you fund a Mr. P son out of a miltiple graded stakes winning daughter of Northern dancer?

Malibu Moon produced a stakes horse and was moved to kentucky the next year.. I think we are lucky to have this calibra stallion standing in the Mid Atlantic for $25k

I also like Northview's Dance With Ravens, not so much for his A.p. Indy sire but for his champion multiple graded stakes winning dam of over $3 milliom

He's a useful horse but for about the same money ($15k-$35k) you can get to Pleasant Tap, Langfuhr, Arch, City Zip, Quiet American, Gulch, Smoke Glacken, Silver Deputy, Stormy Atlantic, and Cozzene. The last three in particular really blow Not For Love (at his current fee) away.

Personally, given that he has 1 SW/1SP and 1 good winner out of Broad Brush mares plus a known affinity for son strains of Ribot, I like her with Cozzene. (Edit to add: the stakes winner is the current favourite for the Queens Plate!)

With Capote, not much since Matty G went to Washington but you have Dixie Union.

I think Cozzene is one of the most underrated stallions of the past 10 years or so.
And DOWN the stretch they come!
