For Fans of Perfect Drift and Brass Hat--Ebay Auction...

Postby winningcolors1988 » Wed Nov 07, 2007 1:10 pm

I know that Perfect Drift has some fans on this board. Just wanted you to know Second Stride has one of his shoes on auction at Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... EF:US:1123

This may be one of the last chances to get a shoe from Perfect Drift. He is not officially retired, but he no longer in training, so the retirement announcement may be coming soon. And once retired, he may be one of those who are able to go shoeless.

And we have one of Brass Hat’s shoes as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... EF:US:1123

The Brass Hat shoe comes with a photo taken by Ed Van Meter, and signed by Willie Martinez.

As always, 100% of the winning bid goes to Second Stride. http://www.secondstride.org/references.htm

Thanks to Murray Johnson, Buff Bradley, Ed Van Meter and Willie Martinez for helping to make these items available, which will allow some very nice thoroughbreds to come into our program.

And thanks to any who might bid on these items. Your support is very much appreciated!

Thanks so much for your interest!

It has been interesting. Several people responded to the Ebay ad with comments of how much they love Perfect Drift. You are the first to mention Brass Hat. But I see his price is now higher than Perfect Drift's.

I am so curious to see what the final bids will be on these two amazing geldings.

We have a hard time gauging who will be popular. If you have any requests of shoes from other horses based in Kentucky, let me know and I may be able to get them.

Thanks again!

winning colours,

I love the fact his poop and straw are still mashed in the shoe

I have always wondered what other people do or if people do anything as far as presenting "game used" tack...

It was funny when I brought the shoes to various plaque stores to get prices for mounting the shoes, I would take the shoe out of the bag, and the salesmen would cringe. "Are you going to wash them off first?" they wanted to know. When I said no, I could tell they thought I was nuts. I even had them use the same nails to attach the shoes to the plaque that had attached the shoe to the horse's hoof. They thought that was pretty odd as well.

My favorite is when I get a really worn halter from a great horse. Sometimes the stud farms that donate them will apologize for the condition they are in. But I love those, and know other fans would rather have a beat up halter, scratched named plate and all, than a new one hardly worn.

My great ambition would be to get a shoe from Hard Spun. As the year went on I loved that horse more and more.

On the halter issue, when I obtained my former racehorse Gear It Up (see separate thread on his whole story), he came not with his own halter but with a halter belonging to a horse called I'm A Bull. I often wonder what might have happened to I'm A Bull. Also if anyone finds Gear It Up's halter I'd be prepared to purchase it, or preferably if someone wants to give it to me I'd donate to a charity of the halter owner's choice.

We have connections with both Street Sense and Curlin who have agreed to give us shoes. I wonder if we got Hard Spun's, if they would be worth more separately or all together on one plaque, representing the best of the boys in 2007.

Hard Spun was on my very early Derby list just because of his pedigree, but then when I saw him on the backside Derby week, he moved way up just based on his look. He was just amazing. Pretty much everyone who saw him that morning moved him way up their lists. This was on his way to the track, after his work he was absolutely ripped, muscles popping out everywhere.

Here is Street Sense, looking as is he knew all the fuss over him was well deserved.

And Curlin, who looks quite dignified here, but he had actually been horsing around during most of his bath:

And at Second Stride we have started asking trainers when they donate their horses to if possible donate them with their halters with their own name plates. Many of the new owners enjoy having the halter to hang in their home, as a tribute to their horses past life at the track. We also like to pass on as much of the official paperwork and pedigree information as we can, many owners like to frame that, and they love seeing the famous names like Secretariat or Alysheba in their horse's pedigree. So I can understand your wanting to find Gear It Up's halter. I will keep an eye out, you never know......

And I haven't read your other thread yet, but thank you for taking on a retired thoroughbred. Good luck to you both!

winning,

A few things.

First, you know I am now sorry I cleaned out my first mares shoes. I was thinking of doing something similiar as the plaque but with a picture or the past performance line from whichever race it was that she won.

Secondly those are great pictures. My favorite moments around the track are the nitty gritty... this is my favorite picture of my partner and my mare A Regal Reflection at the track, its about 8:30 in the morning, and the picture was with a disposable camera.

This one is a handicap horse my trainer has, Cresecent Remark, in the paddock http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=478736&id=690685449

Finally, since I collect sports stuff (nothing major a few NHL autographs... ok so there is over 900 at last count... ) nothing beats the "game used" or authentic look.

Good luck with the auction! (I think as far as Curlin/Hard Spun/Street sense one of each on a plaque would be neat).
