Backup Plan Needed

Postby fullspeed » Mon Jan 21, 2008 3:58 pm

We were planning on sending our mare Miss Information to Victory Gallop this year. Seems he may now be leaving the country. Would like to have a backup plan for another stalion. Ideal would be 15K or under....under better lol. He needs to be a Ky stallion. Any thoughts?

How about Badge of Silver at Airdrie? He is $15K. You get Deputy Minister, Mr. Prospector, and Hail To Reason through Roberto..
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

I would try Northern Afleet.

Yes, that is the same mare. She has made her way safely to Ky. We purchased both her and Magic Street. They are both beautiful sweet mares.

considering the mare's history and that she produced two racing foals with minimal success on the track I wouldn't consider a stallion at any price that didnt already perform well with Known Fact mares.

I wouldnt be too upset about Victory Gallop, 6 years changes the way this new foal will be viewed at a sale.

Backup Plan

Miss Information for whatever reason for years has slipped through the cracks. I think if given a different path with different opportunities she would have excelled. Her twining filly brought $100K and I believe is now a producer as is her offspring. Her $275K Victory Gallop colt Al Sami was fatally injured in his first race(not his fault.) Her dam is a stakes producing daughter of Tom Fool. Every one of her dams is either a stakes producer or winner. I believe her 4th dam was a champion 2 yr old filly.
I believe in this mare, she is going to finally get her chance. I want to give her every opportunity to show what she can do. I would hope we would be rewarded at the sales but if not then we race.

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. I very much value the opinions of the board. :D

Doesn't In Reality nick well with Fappiano? The famous Tartan farms cross? How about one of the Unbridled line stallions, like Unbridled Energy at 10K?

fullspeed, I was the underbidder for that mare. I believe as you do she has fallen through the cracks and deserves a better shot. I hope you find the right stud and when you do let us know who you chose.

Good Luck,
Larrygene

I was thinking Quiet American, but more than fullspeed has budgeted. QA has also had a winner with Known Fact mares

I would see if you could negotiate a deal to Arch.

Arch has maybe 3-4 foals of racing age out of Known Fact mares. One ran through his conditions and racked up almost $90k doing so, and the other is a three-time South African champion who was purchased by Graham Beck to race and then breed. Overarching was a GOOD filly, running in top class competition from the moment she stepped foot on the track. You can view her race results here: http://www.aro.co.za/racesrun.asp?N=OVE ... USA&Y=2000 Note that the Horse Chestnut, November Handicap, and Jo'burg Sprint are all open races and that when she won the Horse Chestnut, she was equal top weight (minus the filly allowance).

Crossing Arch and Known Fact reinforces the old Calumet blood of Two Bob through Alydar (via On-and-On) and Tim Tam. Known Fact also brings in a cross to Bois Roussel via Persian Maid--five out of Arch's six Gr-1 winners carry Bois Roussel, and it has been a high-powered cross for Roberto in general.

If you can't buy a season or negotiate a price in your budget, Action This Day stands for $10k but I don't really like him. He was a one-hit wonder on the track and I don't think his female line will complement Miss Information as well as Arch will.

Last September when we submitted a stakes placed mare for Arch we were told they were only accepting graded stakes winners and graded stakes producers into his book for 2008.

He's gonna have a very small book, then, since there aren't all that many GSW mares OR that many GSW producing mares around.

:D :D :D

I have to say, in this business I certainly don't believe everything I hear, but that's what we were told. It seemed like a bit of a stretch to me for a horse that finished the year at #87 on the general sires list, but the farm was more than confident that they would fill his book.

Hi,

I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice and kind words. I didn't respond sooner as I have been away from the computer this past week. I had a broodmare fracture her leg in a paddock accident.

Larrygene I really appreciated your post. I didn't realize that someone from the "board" had bid on her as well. I will be sure to let you know how things go with her.

I am still looking at the stallions that you all mentioned for her. I have yet to hear back from Winstar about Victory Gallop.

I am not opposed to spending more on a stud fee for her. If we needed to go higher we can. I really wouldn't want to exceed $25K though.

Once again thanks for all of the wonderful suggestions!
