Gigantic Payoffs!!!

Postby larrygene » Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:57 am

Did anyone notice what the 5th race at The Fairgrounds paid yesterday. The race was a MCl$12.5. The winner paid $115.90 to $1. The next 2 horses were longshots also. The $2 trifecta paid a whopping $130,774 and the $2 Superfecta paid an unbelieveable $780,686!!!!!

I've personally never seen that large of payouts!!!! could not believe it.

The tri pool had $87K and the super $52K, so the $1.00 tri was around $65K and the $.10 super paid around $39K, still pretty hefty payouts.

DDT, then why are they showing under the payoffs the fIgures I quoted. There can be a minus pool payout, can't there??? Rare but it happens. I understand pari-mutual betting but I thought you could have a minus pool payout. Not that I don't believe you but I would like a second opinion.

I think the payoffs are based on a $2 ticket....if someone had only a 10 cent ticket, they got 5% of the amount for $2.

FG always post $2 payouts on their exoctics even if nobody had it on a $2 wager. That is one thing about the 10 cent super at larger tracks it all but elminates payoffs on all in supers.

Every jurisdiction in the U.S. requires a minimum payout (usually 5 cents to the dollar) for any winning bet, regardless of how much money is left in the pool after deducting winning wagers.

A minus pool occurs when such a large % of the pool is bet on the winning horse(s) that there is not enough money left in the pool after deducting winning wagers and commissions to pay at least $2.10 for a $2 wager.

What happens when there are large payoffs is the opposite of a minus pool; there is very little money bet on the winning horse (exacta, tri, etc.)

I was not trying to be a wise guy, with the amounts of the $2.00 payouts shown, and the amounts of the pools, it appeared that there was likely only one winning tri ticket and one winning super ticket, the tri at $1.00 and the super at $.10. The amounts posted reflected what would have been paid out for winning $2.00 tickets.

DDT, I didn't think you were being a smart ass at all!! I saw HRTV post the results of that race and they showed $1 tri for $65K+ and a $1 super for $390K. Equibase is showing the amounts I posted in the first post. Thats why I was dubious.

Can it be that nobody had the superfecta?

I wish all tracks would LABEL their will-pays and payouts. It's getting really confusing trying to remember who shows what!

I guess one way to do it is always show the minimum payout -- 10 cents, 50 cents, $1 or $2 -- whatever the minimum for the bet is.

If anyone on here is a track executive or knows one, pass this message on!
