Hanging with Haskin's column in the Bloodhorse magazine on the "Kentucky Derby Trail" refers to the 1/17 MSW at Santa Anita having possible KD contenders:
"At Santa Anita, the Bob Baffert-trained Mayor Marv finally found the winner’s circle after three straight seconds, wiring his field going 1 1/16 miles to win by 1 3/4 lengths. Runner-up Millennium Lakes, trained by Mark Casse, closed fast from ninth at the head of the stretch to finish a clear second and is one to watch next time out."
This is kind of exciting for me personally because Hog's Hollow, a Perfect Soul colt which I bred and still own, got into all kinds of trouble just as he was trying to make a move before the Eighth pole and got bumped repeatedly and literally got knocked completely out of his stride. Yet he still came running, once he got out, and finished a fast finishing fourth. Watch the replay. I truly think he would have gone very close, notwithstanding the fact that the winner had an easy uncontested lead throughout.
