I guess Mother Nature is reminding us who's REALLY in charge.

Mt. St. Helen's getting cranky.

6.0 earthquake followed by a flurry of about 100 others shakers in the 2.0 to 5.0 range in just under 6 hours in California http://earthquake.usgs.gov/recenteqsUS/ ... 5_eqs.html

Something is NOT happy. I'm getting the distinct impression this planet has a REALLY bad cold. (Hurricanes are sneezes, earthquakes are coughing ... volcanos are that ick you cough up and spit out)

OMG that's too much - you can watch the freakin volcano blow. NPR said something was going to give on it in the next three days. They did say that the activity is expected to be much less than the past eruption, what ever that means to the poor people living nearby.
Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket!

If anyone's silly enough to live all that nearby after the first Mount St. Helens eruption, you have to wonder exactly what they are doing for brains. But I suppose they're first cousins to the people who buy "first class residential property" right next to where a commercial airport's going in and then complain about the noise.

No no no, see at least those people were there BEFORE the airport went in.

My favourites are the idiots who spend $350k on a house that backs up to an Arab farm and then complain about the flies and manure smell. "Did you NOT see all those horses when you first looked at the house?" Makes it even better when the house is in the flight path between Nellis and the range. Then they complain about the planes buzzing the house 4 times a day. "That base has only been there for 30 friggin years, fool!"

Or the folks who buy next to a horse farm and then complain about the manure...it's an epidemic in parts of NY...they move from the city to escape that life...and then try to make the rural areas into the city...go figure...

And let's not forget the people who come to Florida during the winter and buy property because of the climate, only to find out the hard way what every long-term resident could have told them -- that the same sun that is so lovely and mild in February will be baking their brains for them May through September when it isn't raining fit to drown a fish (and we do lose a few of 'em every year to lightning strikes since they don't have brains enough to get off their precious golf courses with their hand-held lightning rods during a T-storm). And then they (the ones that DON'T get lightning-struck) complain of the heat and their AC bills...

I tried once and they told me forget it. While that may be true (they have to fix it) I am taking bets it will be much less painful and expensive to get a load of dirt and channel the runoff down the street farther.

One neighbor nearby just moved to VA....had those neighbors that moved into The Country so they could complain about the manure smell from the horse farm next door. Since we have mostly Amish neighbors the only epidemic I have (aside from the damn water above!) is being overrun with cats from the Amish farms. I got one to agree to get his cats fixed! They are even starting to annoy HIM. Still have to work on the other Amish neighbor and the 2 not Amish neighbors w/ unfixed cats populating the earth at an alarming rate. Anything I catch goes to the shelter and gets fixed. The SPCA loves me. Said they wish more people would do that so are giving me a rate of 20 bucks a cat to fix and get rabies shot. You know it's bad when they know my voice on the phone and I don't even have to give my name anymore........ :P .

We have the same country vs. city dweller's wanting a "piece of country" problem. Only it's not horses, it's chicken houses! Why in the name of all thats Holy would you buy 2 acres, build a 600K house next door to a chicken farm with 10-20 chicken houses? Hell yes, it's gonna smell! Did you have a head cold when you were looking at the property? I have absoulty no sympathy for those idiot's!

"90% of this world is stupid and the rest of us are in danger of contagion"

There really is an ALARMING lack of common sense present in the world today, running right down to the simple things. Some soccer mom gets pissed because the dog gets run down when she's out taking it for a jog and wants the person who hit it to go to pay her money for the "trauma" of watching her beloved pet die ... "well, dumbass, maybe you should have had the damn dog on a LEASH!"

Ewwww...don't get me started. We have a little "village" within the greater Albuquerque area that's called Corrales. It means "corrals" in Spanish and is so named because that's where Coronado kept his horses some 400 years ago when he passed through. The area was colonized not long after by Spanish ranchers and has retained it's rural charm throughout the centuries. It's a gorgeous little place with winding roads, lush fields and ancient cottonwoods that runs right along the Rio Grande. There are little farms dotted everywhere within the village limits...and yup, you guessed it...Mr. I-just-sold-my-California-real-estate-and-I-want-to-own-a-farm (no offense Californians...they actually come from everywhere including New Mexico, itself) moves in and .... oh my goodness, livestock doesn't smell like roses! I'm being inconvenienced. My neighbor has to get rid of his animals! And off to court they go. Makes me crazy. All I can figure is these people see farms on TV and *think* want the lifestyle, and just don't realize what comes along with it. Next thing you know they are demanding that the environment to conform to their expectations. It's kinda sad, really.
So many pedigrees...so little time. (C)

I used to carry a water pistol loaded with ammonia when out bike riding for the benefit of stupid dogs whose owners didn't believe in leash laws. Would have liked to gve the owners a taste of the same....

If you live in the city, you will put up with: traffic, traffic, traffic, street noise, higher crime rates, crowds, people who think 3AM is a great time to hold a roaring party in an apartment with rice-paper walls (the kind where everybody five doors down and two floors either way can hear your business if you speak in whispers), and emergency vehicle sirens at all hours.

If you live in the country you will put up with long drives to everywhere you might want to go, roosters crowing at 4AM, dogs that bark all night (along with the coyotes), unwanted pets being dumped n your neighborhood, kds who think your street makes a great drag strip that the police aren't likely to check before they can split, occasional power outages, and (in my neck of the woods) dirt roads.

In short, there ain't no such thing as a perfect place to live, and will those people expecting one please grow up and get over it!
