Got the invitation to the meeting to discuss what needs to be done with the Yearling Sales. Anyone going?

I am, my own feeling is if you complain about the sale then you should be at the meeting on Monday. I understand it will be a "everything will be put on the table" for thought meeting. I know on this board alone there are people who complain constantly about the sale, but still utilize it, so here is your chance. I have rsvp'd & I asked since the meeting is Monday, if many had rsvp's, NOPE. Hope attendance is better than the rsvp'ing.

I would like to be there, but will be in the States running horses. Chris will be going with our young horses to Fla so I guess we will miss the ground breaking meeting.

Would liked to have gone, but I am the driver for my eldery Aunt, and we have to go to London for a specialist appointment. :(

Ever the optimist Ascot, I find it so hipocrytical that you use the sale, yet you have absolutely nothing good to say about it. To me if dislike the sale that much, & you won't attend a meeting, then you have absolutey no right to complain. No one held a gun to your head to force you to put yearlings in the sale. If you don't like it go else where... :roll:

I'm sorry, but I will be saddling a horse at Philly Park that day. That is a little more important to me than driving up from Maryland to go to the meeting (I've gone to meetings there before and they weren't very productive). I don't think that means I shouldn't have an opinion on the sale. Chris would have been there if he wasnt stopping in for the race on his way to Fla. BTW we did send 2 elsewhere and they sold for much more than we were expecting, and they would have been preferred horses if we kept them here.

The sale is what it is, I've finally accepted it, hopefully some changes for the better can be made.

I wonder why they can't get into the new millennium and hold it as an interactive webcast? All you would need to "be there" is a pc with internet, screen to watch, camera if you want to be viewed, telephone line to call in and participate, etc.

I was in the computer biz for 30 years and we've been doing webcast on important topics for business owners in the industry for coming on ten years now. If little itty bitty software companies can hold webcast meetings, I'm sure the CTHS could step up to the plate.

That is the point I was waiting for Madelyn. Thanks for posting it. Even "The Horse" and "The Blood Horse" had another webcast this week. I managed to catch a lot of the Nov. sale online. I know that there are ways. I hope they do offer electronic participation in the future. The demands of working in the industry make it nearly impossible to attend these rare gatherings.

It has actually the effect of weeding out most of the Really Active folks and a lot of the best input is lost because busy folks can't drop everything and travel to a meeting.

The meeting, for those that were unable to attend, was well chaired, well organized & productive. Any & all idea's were put forth, anyone who took the time to submit their idea's by November 18, had their emails brought forth & their thoughts discussed in the meeting, despite not being able to attend.

I do realize that its a tough time for some to get there, but for those in attendance I think the time spent was valuable.

Ascot,t I have only one thing to say, If you aren't part of the solution then you are part of the problem! Quite frankly, your bad attitude is exactly what the meeting didn't need. So, your right, best you were saddling your horse, and not in attendance of this meeting. Although if you had a notion you could have sent your suggestions in by November 18th, I would have been more than happy to bring them forth. As you did not put forth any idea's or suggestions then I guess you'll just have to suck it up!! :lol:

I have often had someone saddle a horse for me if I had to be somewhere else that day. Seems rather short sighted to opt to saddle a horse in a state you dont even live in for a single day, rather than miss a meeting that can have much more far reaching effects to someone breeding and selling in Canada.

there was a lot of good discussion about the sales stakes, where to alocate money for possibility of larger purse structures, and with that larger purse structures for 2 year olds & the topic of the older horses benefitting etc.. The focus being if you pump up the 2 year old purses for Sale Stakes, create a lot of hype & benefit the sale.

Marketing was discussed, to really look at what is working in that area and what is not, & the possibility of consulting a Marketing person who deals just in that area.

There was a lot discussed but it was beneficial & well lead by Glenn Sikura, & Julie Coulter & her staff had everything really well organized. Suggestions that were sent in prior, were all photocopied & put in packages for everyone in attendance. I need to go back over my sheets to specific area's as we were in there for a number of hours.

As people who consign & use the sale, I was very happy with the outcome of the meeting, further meetings will be organized to focus on specific area's. I like our sale always have & have never had any problems dealing with anyone in the CTHS office, quite the opposite in fact.
If I had to breed for Keeneland sale I would have to get out of the business, with 5000 yearlings going through their Sept Sale, I would need something pretty exceptional to sell well.

It is unfair both in terms of staffing & from a business sense to compare these sales, they are nothing alike. The CTHS has 3 women who do everything for our sales all year long, that is not much considering the amount of work. :)
