I have noticed many people are now using the term
"stained white" for referring to horses with such a coloring.
Great...Great! I wonder when registrar authorities will finally
realized that this is the way to deal with labeling horses such
as this one:

Stained white was the name suggested by Jorge for the DW horses that aren't pure white.

My virus blocker popped up a big red alarm when I clicked on the above link - use with caution. Apparently a lot of people are getting viruses or talking about viruses from the equinenow site.

:D :D What a coincidence! Page three (top of page), of this very same thread has a posting by yours truly exposing this suggestion! :D :D

http://www.pedigreequery.com/forum/view ... c&start=30

The suggestion also provides the argument that if the equine's phenotype is more solid color than "stained white", then the term "marked bay", "marked chestnut", etcetera can be used.

It's a way of eliminating having to enter into the more technical realm of genotypes, for the sake of keeping things "simple"
(that is "horsemen/horsewomen simple" and "pedigree-page" friendly)

What's odd is that I've seen it in MANY places and I can't imagine they all came from here, but it all started at about the same time. It's just odd that so many would start using it at once.

I don't care for the idea personally, but I'm a genetic nut and don't like terming phenotypes.

The problem is it DOESN'T keep things simple. It confuses people and makes it MORE confusing then just calling it was it is.
