Key, it looks like that alligator mouth of yours has overloaded that bird brain of yours once again. Your post to Ajo reads like a drunken rant. You expect him to apologize to you? What about all the false accusations you've made toward just about every board member in the state of TX? Where is their apology? Why don't you answer any questions To back up your claims of conspiracy, secret meetings, election fraud, misuse of funds? I don't know anything about your TVMA investigation, but if you've done nothing wrong, just cooperate with them and move on.

Mrs. Haynes,

You know I am limited on what I can say in public and I know it was not you. I gave you the way to find it out for yourself and that is the best I can do on the forum. If you wish to call, I will be glad to discuss it with you. Again, your support was key in getting TB dates at SHRP and that was noted and appreciated by all involved trying to save some form of year round racing. The decisions made by both TTHBPA board and the TTA board were based on bad information being fed to the folks. As we know now, the racetracks were not going broke; two of the three were about to go under new management! The third had issues and still probably does, but has improved its position a lot with the new racing schedules.

I would hope that everyone will reflect back on who and what was involved in creating the crisis and do everything possible to prevent the horsemen and this industry from being used as a political poker chip again. The legislators knew more of what was going on than many of the board members and it appears everyone is more interested in sweeping it under the rug than making changes that will prevent it from happening again! Until the horsemen are convinced these issues are resolved and palpable changes are made, the industry will continue like a rat on wheel and no matter how hard we work we will always end up in the same place.

One thing I did learn from reading transcripts of the TRC that went back about ten years is that when it comes to the tracks, they are very careful in what they say and if omission was a crime a few of them would have been locked up a long time ago. It is amazing how the constant threat of closure allowed them to raid purse accounts and basically get out of many of the obligations to the state and horsemen that they accepted when they took that license.

G2W#3or#2; not clear which one you are on this post. If you wish to give me a call, I will fill in some of the blanks for you. If not, have a good Thanksgiving and may all your horses cross the finish or time line in fine fashion.

What are chances of Laredo Race Park and Longhorn Downs actually having a meet?

Roger, I don't know but Austin has it's F1 racetrack on hold -- maybe the Austin license could pick it up cheap? LOL

Roger, not a snow ball's chance in hell. Same for the other unbuilt tracks. All of these license holders are astute businessmen. They won't play until the playing field is leveled.

For someone wanting the job to represent the membership, you are plainly stating your loyalty to the slots or nothing agenda and the racetrack license pinhookers. There is no other agency that would grant a license for 20 years and not revoke it for non-compliance! The TRC has hopefully got the support of the AG to draw a line in the sand and fine or revoke the license holders of the class two tracks. The license holders have chosen not to contribute to the state or local tax base, chosen not to contribute to the horse industry, and chosen not to participate in the obligations they submitted to when they applied for those licenses!

Texas is the sixth largest economy in the world and if you can not put in a racetrack and entertainment complex in the Austin area and not make it profitable just on beer an liquor sales, you are a very crappy businessman. Pull those licenses and put them up for bid for non compliance and see what happens! Again, the horsemen are being used to acheive a political agenda and every legislator knows it and the associations are as welcome at the table in Austin as a bad case of the clap. The BS should have been stopped a decade ago and the slots or nothing agenda just will not die. The big winner from this agenda is not Texas, it is Ky and the surrounding states. The associations have gutted the industry they were intended to represent looking for the pot of gold at the end of the slots rainbow! Vote for change in the boards!!! The boards are being manipulated by a few folks that have drank the purple kool-aide and the path to change is to change the boards!!!

Question was asked and answered, no more or no less. Those licenses are not monopolies. Anybody who wants in can get in. Too bad you rank the product you help to produce behind beer and liquor sales.

By the way, though, even if you're right, why build a $25M racing facility when you can get a really nice bar for $1M?

Sadly, CrazyHorse is correct. Why indeed? For that matter why not a sports bar with OTB? There are lots of things beyond slots that could bring in some money.

The only way to acheive a level playing field with the surrounding states is to eliminated the big population advantage and economic advantage Texas has. The biggest drain out of the purse structure is not people running over to LA, Ok, or NM to play slots. It is the continuous flow of money over the Internet being wagered on racing. We do not get a cut out of for purses or the state for taxes.

You can easily double the purse structure of Texas with an ADW plan that captures that lost revenue and it is being ignored for the slim to none chance that the price of oil will go back to eight dollars a barrel by the next legislative session! We have seen tremendous growth in the betting platforms draining the life blood out of our industry and no support by the associations to capture this lost revenue. The big bettors are not at the track and are not going to be at the track anymore, they are at home taking advantage of the deals offered by the platforms to wager through their systems. That is why the per capita wagering is not what it used to be and will not ever be there again at the track.

How does it sound to run at 200k/day at Retama, 300k/day at SHRP, and 350k/day at LS! That is the impact of a good ADW plan can have on the purse structure and industry in Texas. Then when the price of oil goes less than 20 dollars a barrel and we have a democrat house, senate, and Governor a legitimate push for slots can be made. Why do we have to starve everyone out in the hopes that 20 years from now the planets will align for a reasonable chance?

Not all ADW plans are alike and buyer beware the one the tracks support is very good for them, but would only supply half the increase to the purse structure that others can supply. The VA plan puts about 4.5% in the purse structure, while the Washington plan would put about 8% into the purse structure!

The 25 million to build the track is just a number to garnish support for their pin-hooking endeavors. No one held a gun to their head to apply for those licenses and by applying for them you are making a commitment to do something with them. They are a monopoly simply because they are all regulated to the point of not having the ability to build wherever they choose. Let them try to put one of the class two's in Arlington or Cypress!

For the various board members reading this post, I want to remind you that the set up for the race dates crash was started in November of 2009 at least. That your ED's and other industry players have continued to have industry meetings and have not shared the information with the public or the entire boards! What was fed to you in 2010 was carefully worded, crafted, and predetermined to give you the information so that the only logical decision that could be made was the one these industry leaders wanted from the boards. You need to ask your board presidents and ED's what they knew and when, you need to understand that this process has continued to affect an industry to acheive a legislative agenda and not to improve the circumstances of the current membership!

When we started putting together all the players in these meetings and their motivations, it became apparent that the easy way was the old fashioned way of just follow the money and go where it leads. Did it not ever occur to the TTHBPA and THP folks that in previous years SHRP had the operation money to run many more days than what they had to run the meet for 2011. Where did that operation money go? You should have the ability or the willingness to ask to verify these financial questions simply because they effect the horsemen you represent, if you do not, then you need to change some rules where you can!! I know in Oklahoma, there was a time when the HBPA filed a suit against RP in order for them to open up their books when they were trying to cut the days to nothing about fifteen years ago. It held in court and the horsemen did not lose days!!

It is not about "operation money", it is about purse money. When it gets down to it, that's really what it's all about. I am not about "slots or nothing", I am about purse money. Whenever can get 100 votes that will raise purse money to the highest level in the southwest, you will have ME! If you can do that, you're a hero. Sofar, however, you haven't shown the ability to pass gas in the legislature (political opinion, of course).

What have you done to improve purses other than the slots agenda?

For a poor simple person like me, cutting dates to run for higher purses on those few dates, does not count as improving purses. If we could just all agree that there is a total purse amount for each meet and how we spend that total purse money is where we should spend our time. Once we agree on that point then we can consider how to get higher total purses per meet.
