published work under false name?

Postby Discovery » Sun Feb 05, 2012 8:21 pm

How often does this happen? I recently bought an off track thoroughbred for re training. I have had this horse since wednesday. On friday there was a published work for him (fastest of the day). Unless he was magically transported to the track from my farm for this work, there's no possible way this is him. What would be some reasons for doing this?

Usually it's just an accident: a typo, or the clocker misheard, something like that. If a trainer really wanted to work a horse under another name, he'd probably choose a horse that was standing in his own barn to add some credibility.

Yes it does happen a lot actually. I have had older horses that have works magically show up at a track a thousand miles away. There's usually a simple explanation which is not a worry until your horse shows up in the entries and the stewards ask questions.

possibility of same name? Name retired?

Postby francesca » Tue Feb 07, 2012 11:04 am

although it wouldn't happen with a recently retired horse, a horse that has been off of the track for awhile might have had his name retired by the jockey club. Also, make sure you are spelling it correctly. If you get the spacing of the letters incorrect or one letter incorrect you would not have the correct horse.
