My mare by Way West looks black and so does Way West. Both are registered as bays or browns. Do you think Way West is a true black? A pic is on his pedigree page.
Head shot of my mare. She is starting to fade a little now that she is turned out most of the time. I will be sending in the test to see what color she actually is.

Bay horses are Black based horses that have a "A" gene, This comes from Agouti, and comes from work on mice.
Black horses are black based horses that have "a" the recessive version of the gene, and two copies of "a" (aa) indicate that the horse is not bay, and doesn't have the Agouti gene.
So the test result (aa) means that the horse is black.

Yes she is black but I did not test her for red factor. I was testing her for the buyer and we only wanted to make sure she was in fact black and not a dark bay.
