From this post forward, anyone who wants to discuss the opinions offered in this thread needs to do so without including any personal insults or grievances about moderators, posters, or this thread as a whole. This includes "tongue in cheek" comments and "oh, I was just fooling around" comments... and adding a smiley at the end of an insult does NOT undo the insult. Anyone who does not heed this warning will have their account temporarily deactivated immediately.

In a non-tongue-in-cheek manner, I would like to wish the remaining participants on this thread well. Good luck to the German contingent. :)
I will henceforth be found on the stallions and racing threads. 8) (minding my own business, of course) :?

Bye-bye, but do it the "Louis-way" - always on the bright side of life!

In the meantime I will think on that motto:

"those without sin may throw the first stone"

under special consideration of the circumstances of this jolly-good thread, which has so much importance for all those thousands of breeding-newbies in the US and that little rest of the world.

After having done so - hopefully with success - I will concentrate my research on that ultimate verdict of condemnation

"... but you are not a pedigree-researcher",

whereas just some pages later HE says, that anybody can become a "ped researcher" as it is no subject to be learnt at schools and universities or similar useless, but harmful institutions of misbuilding of brains.

Please don't insult BenB: he is Dutch and so definitely not from your so-called "German contingent".

Parlo, I think the winking emoticon could be considered "tongue-in-cheek". That is an American saying which probably sounds very strange in translation. I apologize to BenB, as no insult was intended. I have great respect for the Dutch. They provide me with spectacular bulbs for my garden each year, and BenB has also proven himself a student of the thoroughbred. I wish the German and Dutch contingent well. I really am signing off now. We Americans tend to belabor things

I baised the stat i posted from my personal observance. I have seen many changes over the years.

Ben: Our vets use a small portable x-Ray instrument, when a tb is off his normal gait. When they see a hairline fracture in its early stages, the vet will tell the trainer what is just starting to appear. A decsion will be made to turn the tb out.

I am teaming up with Parlo, as he states facts, uses intellectual messurements, and not afraid to ackknwledge when he should be wrong.

As Iam an racing idiot, it hurts me deeply, that someone is stating foolish
remarks, used as facts from mouth to mouth sayings. As is the case about the use of raceday medication overhere in Europe.

And I do not like the idee, that newbies are trapped in theories, which are only one liner thoughts.

affirmed I find it a positive to be called a german in this thread, the german,s are specialized in facts and not after thoughts.

The reason why there are so many more vets on the backstretch is:

The administration of medication, any administration has to be done by vet,s include all the paperwork. Owners and trainers are relaying on the vet,s. In the old days, horses which were off, went to the farms for an lay up. Todays people want to get them horses treated for everything as they are having Race horses, not Rest horses.

The possiblities of treatment regarding illness and treatment have taken big heights.

The use of lasix in workouts. etc etc.

The number of vet,s graduating from the UC,s has been risen constantly and all of them needs an income to gain.

I dont have the stats, but i would bet the farm, there are more unraced tbs in the prsent thn in the past.

When the breed is 95 % from one sire line, it stands to reason, that the % of unraced tbs would escalate.

All of those old school senior trainers have told me, our tb of the past had the soundness advantage over our tbs of the present. As our tbs of the past were not bred from 95 % of one sire line, thru inbreeding & single crosses.

Louis

Because of the size of the foal crops there are probably many more non-starters than prior to 1980, however it is the percentage of non-starters that has remained fairly constant over the years. Common sense can be useful in life, however, statistics to prove a point would be a more correct way to look at it.

The foal production, has risen from 4.000 in the US in the fifties to 40.000 in the early eighties, and back to 24.500 last year.

All what was done, is production of numbers because of the awaited gains.

While the quality from the stock was just an minor point as each and every horse could made money, either in the sales ring, or in the race.

Each and every horse is having blacktype somewhere in the ped, and that is essential in this buisiness. Even when that is five generations or more back.

with medications legalized, it has become difficult, to weed out mares and or sire lines.

Amazingly, in Europe, they even have veterinarians with instruments! Contrary to popular belief, of course.

And much and much better accredited labs, than in the most US jurisdictions.

Still asking myself, does the racing commissions realy want,s to stop medication abuse in the US.

Louis, in one last post from I wrote that todays owners, wanted to race instead of resting from the bloodhorse of today:

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/ ... evaluation

The use of ant biotics in case of a fever can cost a horse a whole season.

After Bodemeister ran in the Preakness, he was sent to SA & kept in training. When B was being jogged, you clould see his gait was off. It wasntthe antibiotics that caused his problem. B didnt receive the antib, before his gait was off, but after.

The preakness took too much out of Bodemeister, after that he spiked a fever and the result is that he is over for racing.

About the same with Paynter after the Haskell, he made an tremendeous
effort over there, got a fever, and we will see if and where he will start again.

Note, Trainer Baffert is an pro for using legalized Lasix. Which is nothing else than an powerful diuretic, and therefore an race enhacer.

Bodemiester is another FB that couldnt stand up to the rigors of training & racing. Paynter is a NFB that will work his way back, as he has inherited a strong constution thru his prolific crosses of NP sire lines.
