Sabino Thoroughbreds

Postby Jeff » Sat Sep 15, 2012 12:10 am

Here's an interesting one; Bac-Tic. Chestnut sabino with quarter sized white spots all over his body. His sire Baquero (Forty Niner) is solid ch. with at most a small star on his forehead and his dam Ticker by Peterhof is solid ch. with a star strip and a snip. A grand daughter of The Minstrel, I would guess that's where her recessive sabino comes from, but does anyone have a guess as to where the sabino gene from Baquero would have originated?

Forty Niner has been known to throw some flash for sure.

The white spots are likely Birdcatchers.

Did a search on his official data but haven’t found anything
about him. Neither any available picture of him. Assistance needed!

Oken Bruce Lee (Chestnut H 2005) http://www.pedigreequery.com/oken+bruce+lee

He recently competed in the Arima Kinen (Gr-1),
a race that was won by the grey Gold Gift (#13).

The following video of the 1965 Florida Derby:
http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65675 ... rida-Derby
produced the following order of finish:

1st Native Charger (9)
2nd Hail to All (5)
3rd Gallant Lad (2)
4th Gummo (_)
5th Sparking Johnny (_)
6th Battle Star (4)
7th Flyalong (_)
8th Selari (_)
9th Louis Arnold (_)

This video shows a very interesting big-blazed sabino
equine (cloth #4) arriving on sixth position. Seems like his name was
BATTLE STAR. More interestingly, he was officially registered
as a “light bay”.

My questions: Have you ever heard about this horse before?
Any pictures of him to be seen?

BATTLE STAR (Light Bay H 1962) hhttp://www.pedigreequery.com/battle+star3

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

CORRECTION:

According to the following newspaper report:
http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1 ... 971,731671
the order of finish for the 1965 Florida Derby was
as follows:

1st. Native Charger (9)
2nd. Hail to All (5)
3rd. Gallant Lad (2)
4th. Gummo (_)
5th. Sparking Johnny (4)
6th. Battle Star ()
7th. Flyalong (_)
8th. Selari (_)
9th. Louis Arnold (_)

The race can be reviewed at:
http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65675 ... rida-Derby

Upon revewing the video now it seems that the mysterious sabino
horse who arrived in fifth position was SPARKLING JOHNNY
rather than BATTLE STAR. From a phenotypical
standpoint it certainly makes more sense
albeit it is kind of strange that BATTLE STAR
was officially registered
as a "light bay". Go figure!
But that big blaze goes more with
SPARKLING JOHNNY's pedigree.
Lets say it's a natural.

Now the question changes to:
Is there any photo of SPARKLING JOHNNY to be seen?
Any pictures of him to be seen?

Take a look at this big-blazed officially "brown" registered sabino colt.
In addition, he is a very talented racehorse!
