How does a buyer's agent work?

Postby Maureen » Sun Mar 03, 2013 12:30 pm

When I buy a horse at auction, I am usually there to do this myself. I may be interested in one at the OBS March Sale, but I am here and will not be going to the sale.

How does a buyer's agent work? Do they charge a % on top of purchase price for doing the footwork? Do they make arrangements for shipping, proper paperwork for border crossing? Agent recommendations or ones to avoid? As you can tell, I am a newbie at 'distance' auctions, so any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

You may pm me if you like. Thanks!

They will charge you a %.

I would call and ask them what they charge and what do they do? Do they arrange shipping? etc, etc?

there are lots of bloodstock agents that will work both sides of the sale. That's why they call them horse traders. Sometimes will buy, then sell almost immediately, using someone else's cash.

You could try Davant Latham (859) 312-0838 - if he can't help you out he will know someone who can.
