Winter White (Stained-white colt 2014)

SIRE: Bluegrass Cat (http://www.pedigreequery.com/bluegrass+cat2)
Bluegrass Cat is a normal looking solid color bay sire. Yet, all that is needed for a “normal looking” sire to produce a run-of-the-mill “white” foal, or even a “stained white” individual (like is the case here) is to carry an appropiate number of ancestors who sported sabino-like white markings. Secretariat and Northern Dancer may well play their part. There are two doses from each one so there is a solid head start.

BROODMARE: Princesspatseattle (http://www.pedigreequery.com/princesspatseattle)
Then, we need the most important cornerstone which is the phenotypical element. That angle is being fully provided by Princesspatseattle (http://www.pedigreequery.com/princesspatseattle) White spots and solitary spots as well as high ragged extension of leg white are giveaways. Also, she is carrying the presence of Not Quite White, who is the white matriarch who started it all within this lineage. Then Naevus and Northjet with their particular white markings. Then Hail To Reason is there, who was a very dark-brown, almost black influence. Several white Thoroughbreds are quite amicable with black Thoroughbreds because both are somehow interconnected.

I'm really surprised they were surprised that colt looks like that. His dam is clearly carrying Airdrie Apache's pattern.

Most of the current whites/ near whites come from Airdrie Apache, so no surprise at all.plus the Naevus / ND.
