Mare Care In Lexington

Postby Roman Brother » Fri Feb 01, 2013 8:34 am

I hope this is the right forum to put this in,correct me if I am wrong!
I am sending a mare up to Lexington to be bred and I am looking for a farm that does mare care.
I am freaking out a little because I keep hearing these horror stories.
So looking for a place with good care, lots of turnout.
The mare I am sending can have an attitude if she is treated the wrong way.
I have only bred locally before,so I need help!
Thanks for any suggestions.

A suggestion

You are right to be careful. I lost a Grade I producing mare in Kentucky a few years back.

I am currently using Hidden Brook in Paris. I have two there now. They came well recommended to me two years ago and I sent a mare who came back in foal and looking great. Sergio de Souza is the farm manager and he communicates frequently with clients as events progress. A bit pricey at $32/day but cheap if things go well.
Good Luck.

I have used Hidden Brook also, no complaints here.

Does anyone have their contact info? I googled Hidden Brook and several different farms came up.
Thanks!

Thank you Jane. I called Hill N Dale and their mare/foal board is a whopping $41/day!

That sounds good for a world class farm, with world class facilities.

Mare Care

Postby jagger » Sat Mar 16, 2013 6:31 am

We have our mare and her foal from last year at Overbrook Farm in the excellent care of Quentin and Mark Wharton. It's a huge farm....much of it not being used. Storm Cat is retired there. I think it's $29/day. Very happy with their care.

Any suggestions on Vet care in Lex? I've had some bad experiences.

For repro work, I prefer Rood and Riddle and have had experience with both the out-patient and the clinic. Hagyard has also provided good professional service as well.
