Is Fio Rito gray strain still alive.
I found this case:

Opinions on the fact that this horse (Fio Rito) came from a pair of parents
with so many lifetime starts (especially his dam) and yet they were
relatively moderate performers. Any thoughts or other examples on parents
with that many starts producing above average sturdy performers?
Thanks in advance for your participation.

What a sturdy performer (Fio Rito) coming from a pair of hard-campaigned immediate parents!:

(p.s. If you watch this longer “youtube” version of the 1981 Whitney Handicap
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SDQqwpWqsk
you can attest how awesome Fio Rito’s victory was.
Awesome indeed because he had to overcome his almost spoiled
false start. [Please go to "frames" 3:09 to 3:47.])

I remember him. He was quite striking. Sometimes the right genes are there but haven't made the right connections until that foal.

Really enjoyed reading your post. Can you abound more on the specific meaning of the phrase: "but haven't made the right connections until that foal". Would you like to analyze Fio Rito from all possible standpoints? Thanks in advance for your valuable perspective.
