Keeneland opens with a great Saturday card. A positive change in the Blue Grass is that the race will be run over the dirt for the first time since 2007. We have had some horses run well out of this race in the Derby over the all-weather track, so this edition could very well give us one to seriously consider in the Derby. It's probably why Pletcher chose this race for Carpe Diem. Here's the field and past performances. TJ

Re: The GR I Blue Grass
Well without having seen the PP's, but having seen most of these run, it looks like it's Carpe Diem's race to lose. I'd expect a better performance from Ocho Ocho Ocho to complete the exacta.

Hi Geo,
The PP's are listed below the entries. But I agree, it's his race to lose. TJ

Carpe Diem takes the same road Street Sense did en-route to his Kentucky Derby win. Looks very hard to beat.

Re: The GR I Blue Grass
Carpe Diem has been a solid horse from the get-go. He's hard not to like. Wasn't the flashiest of wins, but it's not always the flashy ones that win the Derby
Scrap what I said about flashy, he looked pretty good at the end, I thought he looked like he could run on.

Hi Cree,
He wasn't really asked to do any more than he did. Yet he finished well and galloped out well. That Zito horse (Frammeto) was running well on the rail. He's starting to remind me of Ice Box.....if he makes it into the Derby starting gate with his 20 points, the distance will certainly help him. TJ
Re: The GR I Blue Grass
Here's the replay of the Blue Grass, Carpe Diem's beyer figure was weakest of the 3 Derby preps on Saturday with a 95. TJ

Re: The GR I Blue Grass
What I noticed most is that Ocho Ocho Ocho seems quite tiny.
Re: The GR I Blue Grass
Oh yes, he is incredibly small. Next to Carpe Diem, who is medium-sized, he looked small.

He can have his own reality show - Tiny Horse Nation.
