he's gonna win the TC this year. Gonna do what real quiet couldn't for Baffert
I don't care for the owner but that horse is really legit

He did look pretty good. But there are a lot of good horses in the Derby.

but not THAT good

Re: American Pharoah
First off, thank you Fred Hooper. I can't see that speedy dam side as a negative any longer. He is now a clear cut Derby favorite in a great Derby field. Gonna be a good one!
Re: American Pharoah
Because of his dam being so speed-bred I didn't take him for my Derby favorite but that win today was pretty wow. He's got so much class. This is such a good group of horses period. If I were an owner of one of them, it would feel like...REALLY? I have to have this incredible horse THIS year of all years against THESE guys? But also how fun.

I hear ya Mac, I was skeptical too, but I think he has that Unbridled stamina (and his bunny ears).

Re: American Pharoah
I think with world class horses for the most part u can throw the pedigree / stanima issues out the window
U can not write a race that Frankel would not have won. He was good enough to win the cool more lightening stakes and probably good enough to win the arc if they weren't so worried about effecting his stud value
I think ap is like that. He's just good

Hi bdw,
I would agree with your "pedigree/stamina out the window" idea, if they were proven older horses who have repeatedly defied their pedigree. But 3YO's going a mile and a quarter for the first time in their life, that's another story. TJ
Re: American Pharoah
Congratulations to American Pharoah, who achieved a well earned victory.
I was a little surprised on two things:
01. That the time went over the 2:02 minute mark, for such a group of
superior horses, and
02. Given the slow fractionals adscribed to Dortmund and that
he seemed relaxed during the race he sort of tired too much.
Well perhaps the weight (126 lb.) and the extra distance
is a very deciding factor in the Derby.
Opinions?

Re: American Pharoah
I don't think the final time was in any way shape or form indicative of the type of horses that ran today. This was a very strategic race. Dortmund took the lead and slowed everything down to a crawl. AP was always gonna sit 4-5 off the lead rather they were going 43 seconds or 50 seconds at the half.
I will say, I don't think AP is a horse that yarns for 10F lol but i think he's like frankel going 10F i think he's classy enough to get it and be a legit world class horse at that distance, but he's more effective at 9F
I don't see any way he loses the preakness short of vic falling off. But the belmont's gonna be tough becuase the only way i see him winning is taking the lead and pushing the issue and vic won't do that he will sit off the lead and will never past the horse in front becuase AP really really doesn't' want to go 12F

Re: American Pharoah
Competitive Edge would have won that Derby he is a faster horse and AP I have a feeling will duck him in the Preakness.
Back to California and pick easy spots for AP is what I predict.
A joke of a Derby it was a 3f quarter horse race.

Why would he duck Competitive Edge? CE is pointing to the Woody Stephens, it sounds like they want to keep him short.

Hi Cree,
That would be a disappointment. Though it would be the right move for the horse as he was a bit late coming around to his 3YO season after his injury. Pletcher has been very patient bringing him back, so to run back in two weeks would probably cause more harm then good? TJ
