What terrible, terrible news.
Stepped on a nail after her smashing victory in the Belmont Oaks, and took a turn for the worst with a bout of laminitis in both front feet. Keep her in your prayers.

Re: Lady Eli has laminitis
That is absolutely awful. I really hope they use some of the cutting edge treatments and she recovers.
Re: Lady Eli has laminitis
It's hard to believe a horse as good as Lady Eli, steps on a nail and it develops into such a life threatening situation as laminitis. I don't think I've ever heard of a horse getting laminitis from stepping on a nail before...unless the nail was sticking straight up and embedded deeply into the sole of her hoof causing a bacterial infection?? Just doesn't seem like this could happen to a horse of her caliber in a barn as capable as Chad Brown's? Brown said she is in stable but in guarded condition and has all ready been fitted with special shoes to support her front feet. TJ
Re: Lady Eli has laminitis
As I struggle daily to ensure I'm doing everything I can to protect/preserve the horses in my care, I look at cases like Willcox Inn, Zenyatta's foal, and now Lady Eli and realize that no matter how good the horse and the intended care - that accidents happen. We all do the best we can to keep them safe but like the rest of life, shit happens.
Re: Lady Eli has laminitis
Nails do show up in random places, but we're talking Belmont Park, a G1 winner, and some serious carelessness.
She is an absolutely incredible filly, and it's just a shame.

Looks like some good news for Lady Eli's fans. Chad Brown is very happy with where she's at currently and expects we haven't seen the last of her on the racetrack. TJ

Lady Eli had her first easy breeze at Palm Meadows, February 29th after being in training for the last 2 1/2 months. Hopefully she comes out of this racing reminder and moves forward without incident toward her racing comeback. TJ
