Runhappy is a very talented horse. His King's Bishop was truly a spectacle. But he would have never ran in and won the race if it wasn't for the smart handling by his connections to get him there. Here's the story.

Re: Runhappy
Thanks for posting this story Bobster. What Runhappy has done is remarkable - for that matter, anytime a horse wins a G-1, let alone his first G-1 race triumph it is remarkable. As you note; this horse was purchased as a Derby prospect, was initially trained and entered in races on the "Derby Trail" and demonstrated talent/speed at first asking (despite being green as grass) and yet at the first sign of the his wheels sort of coming off - his connections were willing to back off of the 'Derby dream' allowing time and patient care to sort out as to what sort of race horse he might yet become. Your story is testament to the long trail of learning that his connections have had and the years of experience that they have had since first getting into the thoroughbred breeding/racing sport several decades ago. The evolution of an owner is also quite a remarkable story.
Quite notable that Runhappy achieved this WITHOUT Lasix....ever. The fact that he is a horse that loves being on the front end and has proved happier/talented at sprints on the dirt argues that a horse can be trained up to G-1 level competition at a sprint distance without this drug/[powerful diuretic that virtually every horse that races in NA is on from the get go of their careers.

Another awesome performance. A little concerned about the drift in the stretch....

Hi Skeenan,
Thanks for the post...really nice move out of the gate. It was good to see him work out of the gate after his flat footed break in his last start. In his last two races he broke last (11th) then was on the lead by the first 1/4 mile....could be that's just him as he seemed a bit slow breaking from the gate in the video today?
He will need to be on the money coming out of the gate in the BC sprint and hopefully this move gave him what he needed to come out with no hesitation. It should be a great horse race, though it lost a couple participants recently in Work All Week and the ill fated Rock Fall. TJ
