When you find breeding patterns that work you go with them, when your find breeding patterns that dont work, you will have to decide what to do to make them work.

In your case with the absence of sires not being reproduced, you must find a family that is a sire or sires that will dominate your family that is not producing a sire to carry on the male line.

Breed your mares to a stallion that is a sire of sires, and It will turn the tables on your female families that are not doing the same.

Louis

Just cashed a bet on a 10 year old Fashion Bred gelded son of A.P. Indy in the 2nd race at Mahoning Valley in Ohio for his 13th career win from 69 starts and earnings of nearly 400K. He is inbred to Bold Ruler, Buckpasser and Hail to Reason.

Secretariat had 53 crosses of Flying Duchess, all though her son Galopin. Galopin is prolific though the pedigrees of all thoroughbreds.

Catch the Luck is a type 2 FB, because of the following.

CTL is inbred 4 X 5 BR, who was bred to the NP ,are Somethingroyal=Prince Rose.

Buckpasser is inbred 4 X 4 to the NP mare Broaday=Teddy 1 time.
Tom Fool 5 X 5 was bred to the NP mare Busanda= Fair Play
" " "' " " " " " " " Nothirdchance = Peter Pan

Busanda appears 5 X5 = Fair Play
Hail to Reason 4 X 5 was bred to the NP mareSailing Home = St. Simon

Thats why CTL is a type 2 FB. Those type to FB are averaging more lifetime starts, thru their inbreeding & single croses of NP mares.

Louis

It is my understanding that in order for a Fashion Bred to be considered as a type 2 there must be at least a 5th generation inbreeding to an NP stallion or mare, Catch the Luck does not show any NP inbreeding in his 5 generation pedigree, he is a true type 1 Fashion Bred. You continue to count each stallion and mare as being inbred. Example although Busanda appears twice in the 5th generation it is not considered as inbreeding because only the genes she passed to Buckpasser have a chance of doubling up. Another example would be the case of full siblings having the same sire and dam but they are not considered as being inbred to each other. Another example would be horses bred in a similar scheme such as Northern Dancer and Icecapade, they have the same sire and broodmare sire but when they appear together in a pedigree they are not considered as being inbred, only their sire and broodmare sire are considered as being inbred.
