Is Power Jam OK? continued

Postby Shawklit Won » Thu Nov 12, 2015 12:50 am

A 2YO in Baffert's barn with a lot of inbreeding is Concord's Star, who has the same sire as Power Jam (Concord Point). Concord's Star is inbred to A.P. Indy 4S x 3D, Preach 4S x 3D, Seattle Slew 5S x 5S x 4D,Mr. Prospector 5S x 4D, Secretariat 6S x 5D x 5D, Raise A Native 6S x 5D x 5D, and also has Orate as 2nd dam and Pulpit as grand sire. Orate and Pulpit are full siblings.

Concord's Star looked good in his first and only race finishing 2nd in a MSW race at Los Alamitos, but hasn't had a race or a work since, so I assume that he has some sort of injury (time of race was 1:03:70 for 5.5 furlongs.

One inbreeding that was similar to Power Jam's worked out pretty well. That was none other than A.P. Indy. A.P. Indy is inbred to Bold Ruler 4S x 3D, Somethingroyal 3D x 5D, Nasrullah 5S x 5S x4D, Princequillo 5S x 4D x 6D, and Turn-To 5S x 5D.

A.P. Indy did pretty well at the racetrack as well as at stud, although he did miss out on the Derby and the Preakness due to hoof issues. But he did win the Belmont Stakes (equal 2nd fastest time with Easy Goer at 2:26 to his BM sire Secretariat), the Breeders Cup Classic (a nice win to finish his career with) and 7 races in a row including 5 graded stakes finishing with the Belmont Stakes.

Maybe the inbreeding isn't all a bad thing, especially when the inbreeding is to quality horses like A.P Indy, Seattle Slew, Secretariat, Mr. Prospector, Bold Ruler, Nasrullah, Princequillo, Somethingroyal, Turn-To, etc. Northern Dancer is another one and you can tell that from the pedigrees of a lot of the top European horses.

Anyway, I only wish the best of luck to Power Jam and Concord's Star.

Power Jam is working out again. Here's hoping that we see him on the racetrack soon and he lives up to his potential.

Yay!
