Mr. Calvin Bo-Rail retired from the saddle Tuesday after he notified his agent he's out. His abrupt retirement left 7 horses he was listed to ride, scrambling for a rider as well as workout commitments he abandoned this morning. Strange way for him to exit his life's work...hope he's okay? TJ

Re: Calvin Borel Retires
It does seem very unlike him - he always seemed like a very hard worker, not the type to abandon commitments.
Re: Calvin Borel Retires
Wish him a happy retirement. It does seem out of character for him to just quit. I reckon more will be revealed later; or not.
He has been slowing down the past few years. According to Equibase he only had 79 mounts this year with 7 winners.

Re: Calvin Borel Retires
Only 19 wins in the past 9 months. For someone who used to routinely win 100+ (or even 200+) races each year, it must have been extremely depressing.
His last three Stakes wins all came on Ivan Fallunovalot.

Re: Calvin Borel Retires
Has anything more been said about Mr. Borel? The fact that his retirement was 'effective immediately' would lead one to believe something was wrong.
