Oldest jockey

Postby sulphurfire » Sun Jul 17, 2016 1:18 pm

Does anyone know who that could be? The oldest I found was Frank Amonte who in 2012 was being forced to retire at age 76

On YouTube there is a clip implying that Amonte was trying to make the Guinness Book of World Records as the "oldest jockey to win a T'bred horse race" as of 2008, so that may afford some idea as to how old he needed to be.

Unfortunately, Amonte hadn't won a single race since 2005.

Now there are a lot of trainers who haven't won a race in 6 or 7 years, but when a jockey is that way (0-for-88, 2-for-146) then maybe the racing association is wise to protect the public from such a jockey.

Out in the western USA, the jockey named Akifumi Kato is still winning at age 64, and he has won every year since at least 1973.

Kato was on the runner-up when newly-retired jockey Russell Baze won his 2nd-ever race (of 12,842) back in 1974.

Hope you find the info you want.

Jockey Dan Kistler will turn 70 in about 5 weeks, and he was riding today at Great Falls:
