The Pedigree Query database includes fewer than 20 potentially still-living individuals descended from Mr Hutton's Bowes mare. None have, as yet, been tested for mtDNA. Such testing is desirable since the pedigree accepted into GSB does not match the pedigrees recorded earlier in the 18th century for Mr Hutton's mare.

In order to try to resolve this apparent discrepancy, Byron Rogers of Performance Genetics has agreed to perform mtDNA testing if we can find one of these horses to test.

These are the horses of interest, and as much information as I have been able to find online; I would be grateful for suggestions as to how to track down any before the line disappears from the Thoroughbred forever.

Hi D,
I think the best way to track down what you seek is through Finger Lakes trainer Paul W Barrow. Seems he's trained for, or purchased horses from Peter B Forbes who bred, owned or sold many of the horses you seek. I would contact the Finger Lakes HBPA (585-924-3004), explain what you are trying to accomplish and ask for contact info for trainer Barrows. If anyone can help you, I'd think Barrow would be the person that would have contact info for Forbes. TJ

If you want to track down the status of Ronnet - you might contact Stone Bridge farm in upstate NY - Wilton I think. They should be able to put you in touch with Meg Miranda.

Given the age of most of these horses, I would post on Facebook's ottb connect. The people on there have a lot of older horses. Also, Say Florida Sandy is pretty popular with sport people and I feel like I might have even seen someone post about Son of Sand on there.

Got the Moves was bred by someone local to me. I will try to find her number and PM you. I have no idea if she would still have either Got the Moves or his dam.

Thank you. Fingers crossed that we find at least one of these horses still alive.

I found a couple more offspring of Darla's Rush on Equibase. I have added them to PQ.

Rush Haint Darla, 2000 mare by Haint, bred in FL by Meg Miranda and Jimmy Miranda, owned by Steve Epley Sr., trained by Steve Epley Jr. No offspring show up for her.

Malfoy, 2001 mare by Wheaton, bred in NY by Dennis Trites, owned and trained by John H. Spurlock. No offspring show up for her either.

Son of Sand was indeed retired to be a show horse. Show name is Brunello. I have PM'ed his owner (on a different forum) to see if they can get in touch with you.

Thank you again. I'm in the curious position of knowing a lot about 18th century Thoroughbreds & their pedigrees, but not so much about current Thoroughbreds.
