Must-sees in Saratoga?

Postby skeenan » Fri Jun 16, 2017 9:11 am

I'm excited to be taking a two-day trip to Saratoga next month, on my vacation. I'm going to the racehorse museum, doing some horse-related shopping in town and hitting the track the next day. I have a grandstand (clubhouse) ticket already. Hoping to have breakfast at the track and take a lot of good photos!

Any tips, must-sees and/or good places to have dinner?
Thanks in advance!

I am sure you will have a good time. I enjoyed going to Siro's outdoor bar after the races. But, one word of caution: After you cash a winning ticket on a long shot, do not put your winnings in your jacket pocket, go to Siro's, drink too much, and get distracted wondering why a pretty, young blond woman is striking up a conversation with an old man like me. There may be pickpockets about.

Even so, I had a memorable trip to Saratoga. My wife, who left me unattended to go to the bathroom at Siro's, also liked the hot baths at the spa. We still laugh about my Saratoga experience.

Oh no... did you lose your winnings? Or did you suspect that's what she was up to?
Thanks for the tip, though! I will keep Siro's in mind. :D

Wow. reminds me of a NYC (I'm a native) subway experience. I had a leather purse with a flap and buckle closure. I was lazy about buckling up, since the flap was big and heavy and long, but one day, waiting downstairs for the express train at 86th, a man and woman couple is near me. as I get on, one stops in front of me, looks confused, and asks me "Is this the local or express?" I was vaguely aware of the other somewhere behind me, but no alarm bells. I tell her Express and she curses, says thanks, and exits quickly before doors close. I puzzle to myself how they could have been so out of it, when to get the local you must be upstairs, and then think..."Oh. Shit." I check my bag. Wallet gone.
I never felt a THING.

OK, so... *note to self*... bring a heavy-duty zip-up bag! :D
Ugh, that had to be awful, losing your wallet!

My wife's best days at the track are hanging out in the picnic areas at Saratoga. Gotta agree, it's tops - and you can watch the races as well and drop a few in the process

Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.

I'm really looking forward to it! :D The grounds look beautiful.
I'm going to try the jockey training machine at the museum, too. Hopefully I don't fall off, LOL!

The experience was amazing. To me, there is no horse more beautiful than a Thoroughbred. I went to watch the morning workouts and that was worth getting up for. I visited the Hall of Fame museum and rode the race simulator, which was awesome! I "won" both races and the prize was jello legs, haha. (and, it is on video). Gave me an even better appreciation of the fitness and talent of exercise riders and jockeys! Catching a steeplechase race was great, also. Well worth the visit! :D

Oh I know; there's an arcade game that simulates jockey riding, and I couldn't even finish one game...in my fit late thirties!
So glad you enjoyed.
