Witticism

Postby madelyn » Thu Jul 20, 2017 5:38 am

I bought this very beautiful daughter of Istan at Fasig February for literally pennies on the dollar (paid $1400 for a filly that sold as a yearling for $140K). Her barn name is Penny :D anyhow after months of work on her physical issues including growing new feet she won her third start for me last Sunday at Ellis Park, the 4th race. I love her lots!

Congratulations. Looks like she is figuring things out (with your help). Best of luck with her in the future.

Great success story, @madelyn. Can you share what went on between July 2015 and February 2017 that saw her auction value plummet?

Hoping to read many more "win" updates for Penny--an appropriately witty barn name.

All I know about that time is she was in training in Ocala.

My lovely Penny ran a very game race on Friday at Indiana with a blistering pace on rock hard turf she was 3rd only 2-1/2 lengths back. A very stirring home stretch run! NW2 is infinitely harder than maiden since maybe 50-60% of the horses in maiden races may just NEVER win.....

Madelyn:

The replay showed a nice effort. I think she's got some more wins in her future.

Thanks. I think so too. I turned her out in my paddock for a few afternoons after the race; today she was a monster on the shank. Time to go back to training tomorrow and look for another race!

I somehow missed this thread until now. Congrats on what sounds like a wonderful buy and on the win and strong follow-up effort.

Wishing all the best for her next start. LOVE her name!

Thanks Laurie; she would have been a GREAT buy just as a broodmare prospect she is a really beautiful filly. I analyzed the information on her physical issues and figured they were not show-stoppers and I could deal with them and so now here we are with a 4th, 5th, win and 2nd in four starts. Looking for a start mid September. I might wait for the one turn mile at Churchill since she seems to need the longer homestretch.
