Wow, only 5 entries in the Personal Ensign?
I'll be rooting for Songbird, my favorite girl! :D

Thanks for posting, TJ!

Edit... and I just noticed Lady Eli in the last race... awesome!! The girls have it going on this year!

In the Travers, I am picking Cloud Computing, in spite of his most recent effort.
Maybe over MCracken in second.
I would like to see Zito's horse put in a good run ...

I'm still hemming and hawing over my final picks (as I am a complete handicapping hack, lol). I know who I like, it's employing some sort of logical betting strategy. That's the part I struggle with... :D

If I may ask the question, to learn something... do you believe Girvin is too outclassed to pull off a solid top 3? And, no one picked Irap, who just won at a close distance and has two high Beyer figures. I am leaning towards both, on paper, anyway. I'll probably go with a safe bet and this kind of bet. I'm sure I'll be wrong, lol... but I'm hoping the trend of inconsistency we've seen all season might pay off.

Hi Skeenan,
Concerning Girvin, I wouldn't say he is outclassed since he is one of only 4 GR I winners in the race (Cloud Computing, Tapwrit, Girvin and Always Dreaming) He had foot issues that stopped him in the Derby and since the repairs he's run 2 good races back to back, so he does belong.
Irap had to drop in class to pull off his two wins (both in GR III's), but he's been impressive in those wins and seems to be improving and growing into his large frame...so it's a good time to try GR I company. This is Saratoga so upsets are the norm in big races and your strategy makes sense given the inconsistent trend of this group.
Concerning a good overall betting strategy, my advice is bet a little to win a lot, never bet a lot to win a little...you'll have fun and stay in the game a lot longer:>) TJ
PS...we're all handicapping hacks:>)

For better or worse... I'm a penny-ante bettor, I used $0.50 trifectas to cover a lot of possibilities in the few races I wanted to go deep. So even if I lose, I won't be out a lot...
I bagged the Travers, other than betting Girvin across the board. I like him and hope he pulls it off. I was getting a headache... could go so many ways today!

At any rate, good luck everyone! Looking forward to watching Songbird and the Travers!

Really good contest for the training title playing out between Todd Pletcher and Chad Brown. They both go head to head in a number of races today...Pletcher started the day 1 up on Brown and just beat him in today's first race...so he's 2 up on him. But the battle continues throughout the day with both trainers emptying their barn to try to take over the training lead. They are right back at it in the 2nd, with Todd having the 10 and Chad the 9.
