Blazing Away Wins Again

Postby ZiaLand » Sun Apr 02, 2017 3:19 pm

Blazing Away won at Sunland Park.

Blazing Away, a 3YO Diabolical x Blazing Bartok colt we bred won the 4th race today--a maiden special weight, the Winnie Vick Memorial--at Sunland Park going away by 4-3/4 lengths under a hand ride.

This is "Zinger's" first win, though he's been knocking on the door his last several starts. His 2017 record is now 3-1-1-1. He's 8-1-1-4 overall.

So proud of "our" boy. :)

Thanks, mehile. We're hoping that he's just coming into his own, but time will tell.

Bloodhorse has now posted the video of the race. Wow, we didn't realize what a wreck that could have been at the start! Very grateful for a safe run.

Re: Blazing Away ("Zinger")

We could really use some good thoughts for 3YO Blazing Away's next race. He's entered in an Allowance race at SunRay Park against older horses, including a former Bob Baffert-trained stakes placed colt, an Uncle Mo, a Tale of Ekati (the current favorite) and another horse entered by our filly's trainer. His jockey of the last few starts opted to ride the favorite.

We no longer own "Zinger" but we're his breeders. Our guess is after his last monster win (link in last post), the owners may be testing him for stakes potential. It's definitely going to be a test.

This is his first time start on this track and with a new jockey, we're just hoping for a safe trip and that he runs well.

Considering he ran into a buzz-saw (what was Ekati Wildcat doing in that race? who by the way is a half brother to the talented Danish Dynaformer), your Zinger ran a pretty good 2nd.

Thanks so much, Cree. We're very proud of our boy!

Ekati Wildcat is actually trained by our filly's trainer--Justin Evans--and we knew he was going to be a monster in this race. (Didn't realize he was half to Danish Dynaformer. Thanks for that bit of info.) We were just really happy Zinger ran as well as he did.

This time he came out of the gate like a rocket before settling into his typical stalking position. Not his usual starting mode! It looked like he was checked a couple of times and then got packed a little wide, but I don't think it would have made any difference in the outcome if he'd had a better trip.

He's now 9-1-2-4 and hasn't been off the board in 2017.

(I'll try to post a photo of him a friend took at Sunland Park.)

Blazing Away (Diabolical x Blazing Bartok) had another commanding win at the Downs at Albuquerque in an Allowance race last night, finishing 4-3/4 lengths ahead of the favorite Ghost Pro, under an easy hand ride.

This was after another gelding we bred, Echo Eight (Diabolical x Soulful - Lion Heart) dominated the first three quarters of the race.

We were hoping for our dream scenario--a stretch battle between the two when they both came out of the turn vying for the lead--but unfortunately Echo faded in the stretch and was overtaken by Ghost Pro and other horses to finish 5th.

This is Blazing Away's 2nd win. We were very happy to be invited to join the owner, Armando Jaquez, and other connections in the winner's circle.

I'm reviving this thread a year and a half later. 8)

After watching our home bred have a pretty lackluster year including three or four races in a row where he ran near the back of the pack or dead last, we had an opportunity to claim him just as it appeared he was on the improve and really putting in some effort. We got him back in April and were so happy to get him under our trainer's care.

Our trainer ran him on Sunday, June 2nd, in a $7.5k claimer and he won wire-to-wire by 1-1/4 lengths in a ten horse field at SunRay Park. It had been exactly a year since his last win. We were ecstatic. Having a state home bred as owner/breeder certainly has it's perks.

His race was actually the last race of the season at SunRay and he's now headed to Albuquerque, so he'll be right in the "neighborhood."

We're really looking forward to the summer.

Thanks jm and Madelyn!

Blazing Away (Zinger) had his second start with us as owners on 7-5-19 at Albuquerque Downs in an $8K claimer and won wire-to-wire, coming in 4-1/2 lengths ahead of the 2nd place horse. So we're two-for-two since claiming him back. Our trainer, Justin Evans, has done wonders with our boy. It's just great to see him so happy and bright-eyed now. He also had the same jockey for both wins, Luis Negron. They really seem to click.

His stats are now three wins from four starts (with us as owners/breeders) with his wire-to-wire victory on 08-10-19. He also just exceeded $100K in earnings.

His only loss was in 100+ degree temperatures on 7-21-19. where he lead the field all the way around, then faltered in the late stretch to finish fourth.

Prior to claiming him, Blazing Away hadn't won a race in a year. Our trainer is amazing, and "Zinger" was also helped along with some skillful riding by jockey Luis Negron. They've made quite a team, but we're also feeling there's been some divine intervention involved. :)

Now that racing has been shut down at Sunland Park due to the Coronavirus, it looks like Blazing Away won't have another start until probably May (at the earliest--if all goes well).

We claimed our homebred on 4/20/19 as a 5YO coming up on a year without a win. In the last eleven months under our trainer, Justin Evans, he's won five races at four different tracks, including this last win at Sunland Park on March 1.

It's been quite a ride.

Hoping this suspension of racing is over soon and the horses and all their connections can get back to work.

Laurie. A question - I notice a lot NM bred restricted races out there. Are there many opportunities for non-NM breds (in normal times?) Also, do you guys ship to AZ?

Sam Houston is still running, how far to go there?

hope things get back 'on track'.
