advice please

Postby joeangelo » Sat Oct 01, 2005 12:26 pm

I've got a mare Alice Newton (Take Me Out x Nasty Temptation). Three winners from three of racing age. Her 2 y/old with a win and two seconds against state breds, with one of those 3rds being state bred stakes. My question who would you breed her to for a state bred, breed to race operation. She is currently on foal to Moro Oro. With a 2005 colt by Leelanau.
Any advice/opinions would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi, Joe. Tell us what stud fee you are aiming for, what state-bred program, and how far you are interested in traveling.

We breed in Indiana, probably a stud fee 10,000 or less. We could go higher but not until purse money gets better. We have been taking our mares to Kentucky and also to a few in Indiana. Our farm across the river from Louisville so we really wouldn't want to go too far away.
Hope this info helps.

Take a good look at a new stallion here in Louisville, Rocking Trick (phone Trick out of a Storm Cat mare). He won 2 grade one's. If you're breeding to run he may be your guy.

Stallions I would consider in Indiana and Kentucky

Postby Keith » Sun Oct 02, 2005 5:45 pm

I would consider several stallions.

1. Crown Ambassador He is by Storm Cat-Rare Mint by Key To The Mint He is the sire of several stakes winners. You would get 5x5x6x6 Bold Ruler and 5x5 Ribot. He is in Indiana and would be a nice stallion to cross with your mare. Kimberlite Pipe the leading stakes winner by Take Me Out was out of a Storm Bird mare.

2. Birdstone by Grindstone-Dear Birdie by Storm Bird He is a classic stakes winner and out of a great mare.

3. Canadian Frontier by Gone West-Bordislew by Seattle Slew He is by sire of sires Gone West You would line breed Boldnesian 5x5

4. Pure Prize by Storm Cat-Heavenly Prize by Seeking The Gold He is extremely well bred and a Grade II Stakes winner

5. Sunday Break by Forty Niner-Catequil by Storm Cat by sire of sires Forty Niner and a Grade II Stakes winner

6. Van Nistlerooy by Storm Cat-Halory by Halo Nice stallion for the money

Just a few stallion to think about

Thank you all, this gives me some food for thought. My father and I just got into the breeding business a few years ago and it is good to get anothers perspective.

Your mare's 3rd dam, SECRET RETREAT, is the dam of TELL A SECRET [ 49-9-?-? $288,268 ] by SPEAK JOHN. She is half to Aferd, sire of Precocity, and dam of ROSES IN MAY [ C 2000 13-8-4-0 $5,490,187 ] by DEVIL HIS DUE. A 2002 F, DYNAMITE LASS , by Dynaformer ex LISMORE LASS by Vigors, which is a half to Roses in May and has this record:
9 Starts, 3 Wins, 3 Places, 0 Shows Earnings: $124,108 as of 8/17/05

*Kimberlite Pipe the leading stakes winner by Take Me Out was out of a Storm Bird mare.*

Check out PIKEPASS; they may offer some season auctions again as they did last year.

*.... a son of sire of sires Forty Niner, PIKEPASS is out of the stakes-placed Storm Bird mare, Deanna’s Special, a half-sister to the dam of millionairess Lady Tak. This is the tail-female family of notable sires Broad Brush, Capote, Exceller, American Standard and Baldski.*

If Indy Wind will be used as a stallion in the next season, this is my advice!
