ok....I get that you enjoyed watching it, but can you tell me if the video is more about how the race industry works or if its about training racehorses or a little bit of both. Would like to know if it starts out with a 2 year old or if there is any discusion earlier development.
What did you like best about it?
Thanks

Hi Jon,
It's a 3 hour documentary and covers the Richard Mandella barn for the year 2002. It covers the highs and lows of running a high end stable. Richard Mandella is an ace horseman and takes great care with his charges. He imparts his "philosophies" of training, one of which is never talk about a next race in front of the horse, cause they'll run a fever the day before. ~smile~
There are six horses that are the stars of the show: Pleasantly Perfect, Redattore, The Tin Man, Kudos, Ile de France, and Brisquette. They show Brisquette having splint surgery, and Kudos has chip surgery. (The Tin Man just won his comebacker after a 14 month layoff again under the tutelage of Mandella)
He does have some 2yo's shipped in and he covers a bit on that (interestingly enough many of those are running in claiming races for other trainers now. . . . let's see . . there's Gentlemen's Club, Listen Indy, Espy, Emeritus.) Emeritus is at stud (not for wins, but for his pedigree).
Pleasantly Perfect is covered quite a bit in that he was being prepped for the 2002 BC but because he had bled he was not able to go to Arlington. They show Mandella having a tete-a-tete with "Moose" telling him to just wait until next year and that they would sneak up on'em and they wouldn't know what hit'em. It's a great piece especially when you know that PP kicked butt in the Classic.
I am a total racing fan and have watched this dvd over 30 times. Now would it serve your purpose, in my view yes, if only for Mandella's thoughts on training. I've always liked and respected him, but now he is my hero.
Jon, I hope this helps . . . . . . . . . .

"On the Muscle" is tremendous. A must see for any T-bred racing fan.As a small owner, I found it interesting to see a big time barn going through the same trials and tribulations I do, although at a much different level!

So far, I think it's very well done, and well worth watching.
Mine should be here any day.
Know what you mean by the football. Guess, I'm a little better off in that area...Mine (a former trainer) is obsessive about both horses and football though. Sometimes I have to beg to change the channel just to see if we are still a country
