Birdstone and Scrimshaw Colts - Photos

Postby clh » Thu Aug 24, 2006 8:13 pm

Just wanted to share some photos of two of our colts. Would love your brutally honest opinions on them please.

The first one is a Birdstone colt out of Anna K.

The second one is a Scrimshaw colt out of Laird's Honor.

Sorry they may not be the best photos, but would like to know what you think from what you can see !

From what I can see, both are fine specimens. I see no obvious faults in their angles or balance. I like the expression on your Birdstone's face. He looks like he's very self-important. I love your choices of stallions. I considered both of these guys for my ladies last year. But there are too many options to use them all.

I looked also at the pedigrees. I might not have chosen so much Raise a Native as in the Scrimshaw match, for fear of unsoundness. But it also may make him speedy. Who knows?! And you've got to love the ladies in both hypos.

Nice boys clh! They do look very correct. They are honestly much nice looking horses than the ones at the farm I work at part time. But shhh don't tell the owner!
That first one has a huge hip on him! Best of luck with them. Are you keeping them or sending them to the sales?

Birdstone and Scrimshaw colts

Postby clh » Fri Aug 25, 2006 11:50 am

Thanks for your kind words. We like them both but we're a little biased. My husband would like to keep the Birdstone colt because he is so fun to watch - he's the one that is constantly stirring up trouble with everyone - other foals and the moms. It was awful when we weaned. I was ready to bring them in the house but don't think the dogs would've given up their spot on the couch. Both are going to the November Keeneland sale.

Honor was bred back to Even the Score and Anna K. went to Medallist (am not sure I am happy with that decision now - but it is too late to worry about it). What do you think of those matings?

I have a Seattle Slew mare out of Fun Crowd (Easy Goer) - her name is Allou - she too had a Birdstone colt but since it is a late foal he won't go to the sale until January. She was set to be bred to Eurosilver - that didn't work out so she went to Toccet instead. I'd love to send her to a more established stallion next year if we can.

McCaskill (Copelan out of Bally Bis) had a Tapit filly this year and was bred back to Value Plus. The Tapit filly is going to be a beauty but is also a late foal so will go in January.

What are your thoughts on these two?

We've got "halves" of a filly yearling by More Than Ready out of Ocumare - she's in the September sale (last Saturday of the sale I think). Am not happy with the day but what are you going to do? We'll also have a Lion Heart colt and a More Than Ready filly going in November.

Am always interested in knowing what folks think and their opinions on mating, etc... so any feedback is appreciated. There is so much to learn and track and follow in this business - keeps you busy that's for sure!

Thanks again !

Birdstone and Scrimshaw colt

Postby clh » Fri Aug 25, 2006 6:33 pm

Laurie:

I will try and send them to you through your e-mail address. Actually, the Birdstone colt is just slightly smaller than the Scrimshaw colt now (both are March babies) - he is just a little more compact. Folks who have seen him love his "apple butt". Let me know if you get the photos in your e-mail.

clh, thanks, I got them. Very nice looking babies. I'm a huge fan of Birdstones'.

I sent you one of my Devon Lane filly. (It's a little too rough to post in the forum. Hoping for better pics soon.)

Both are so so cute. I'm in love with the Birdstone's expression. Some serious charisma on that puppy.

If you had it to do over again, what would you've done with Anna K. since you're not so happy with the Medallist situation?
