California stallions
Looking for a young (1st or 2nd year) California stallion in the neighborhood of $3500 to breed to an unraced Benchmark mare. Any ideas?

Theres a bunch of good Stallions in CA.
One I like who is not at all commercial is Joey Franco at Harris Farms. He was a real racehorse compared to some standing in California.
Reba's Gold is one good looking horse and has to be around that range. He's at Creston.
I've heard great things about High Demand's babies. He's a Danzig who never won a stakes although he looked like any horse early. I understand that he's a "soft" $5000.

California Stallions
Hi, Everyone,
Who in your opinions are the commercially viable stallions in California? Other than In Excess, and maybe Bertrando, who would you breed a "twenty thousand dollar mare" to? With such a mare, I probably shouldn't go over $10,000 for the breed fee. Any ideas? I really enjoy everyone's view on these subjects. Thanks.

It's tough to say who is commercially viable in California because the stallions get bred across the board marewise and their foal prices reflect it.
In your price category, you might consider General Meeting. I understand he has a reduced book this year so he might already be closed. Storm Creek is a possibility but they really haven't run as well as they might so I don't know if the prices will hold on him. A flier that I am really high on is Marino Marini. I considered him--and I want to breed to him--but physically he isn't compatible with the mare so I've decided against it. But he's worth checking out for the right mare.

Alydar -- Sweet Tooth
If you are seeking a stallion for an Icecapade family, look at Benchmark he has the Calument farms foundation mares. Sweet Tooth, Real Delight, And Benchmark is by Alydar, this family will produce well with the Icecapade cross.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

Yes Louis, Benchmark is on my "short list" for my Icecapade line gal. But, Swaps (the first post in this thread) was looking for stallion recommendations for a friend's Benchmark mare. That is why I recommended a stallion with Icecapade blood close up. We are on the same wavelength.
