Apex broke down yesterday. btw. After that they cancelled the meets because of the weather. Everyone with an right mind should abollish racing in this situation.

Re: Louis's Blog on Inbreeding
If a breeder or buyer wants to purhase a type 1 FB, he knows the risk factor of unsoundness is high. If a breeder wants to purchase a NFB, the unsoundness is a low risk.
Those type 2 FB , with fewer crosses of PH. & inbreeding to those NP stallions & mares bring soundness into play.

Re: Louis's Blog on Inbreeding
General Tufto is a FB by his inbreeding. When you find a FB, you will then trace all their NP sire lines, of stallions & mares. General Tufto has prolific crosses of NP stallions & mares to offset his inbreeding to all those Ph. stallions & mares.
We dont find those prolific crosses of NP stallions & mares in those FB, that have sustained career ending injuries. I would be a bidder on General Tufto.

Re: Louis's Blog on Inbreeding
The soundness study that, Kentucky did, is flawed. The correct way to do the search, is to breakdown those tb pedigrees, that sustained injuries.
Separate those FB & NFB, & find the unsoundness. Were those outcross tb, sounder, or were those FB sustaining more injuries ?

Re: Louis's Blog on Inbreeding
I have been researching pedigrees since the 60s. I have seen what it takes to breed a sound tb. Those FB with prolific crosses of Ph. have the racers edge of unsoundness. When those FB stallions go to stud, their soundnest progeny, are bred from mares that have prolific crosses of NP, stallions & mares.

Re: Louis's Blog on Inbreeding
Kentucky did not an soundness study, they brought the breakdown rate back to the lowest in the whole US. But clearly you do not understand even after ten yrs, that breakdowns are the results from many things, shoeiing, tracks, conditioning, conformation, gaits, luck, medication and pedigree.
Taken one thing out and highlight only that, is not working even DR. R. Arthur mentioned that some yrs ago.

Re: Louis's Blog on Inbreeding
You left out inbreeding to one sire line in the present Ben. Dr. R. Arthur, said that there is many possible causes to unsoundness, including inbreeding.

Bad breeding is just one part of the pie. Lots off reseachers preeching for inbreeding, because the results (winners) are astonishing,

Re: Louis's Blog on Inbreeding
Hybrid Vigor, soundness, longevity, are created when you inbred to 2, 3, or more differnt sire lines. With our breed in the present, those types of matings are becoming a needle in the haystack.
