Thanks for your support Skeenan! I had a lesson planned for this upcoming weekend, but it looks like I might have to reschedule, since I need to be in NJ for a little while. Maybe if I get lucky, I can convince my half brother to let me borrow his quarter horse while I'm there - I'm thinking that since I rode the QH when we initially got him that maybe he'd be one I'd feel a little more confident on since I know him really well - we used to ride around the paddock on him all the time and he was the first horse I barebacked on.

I say go for it... a good ride on a mellow horse you trust is just the thing...
I had a similar fall off a sweet Morgan gelding years ago... thought he was going over the fence, then he popped it. I was unseated a little, then must have toe jabbed him trying to right myself. He ran towards the rail, and I was hanging on the rail side. I figured that I was going to be dragged along the fence so I let go. Fell on my lower back and cracked my head. I got back on, but my vision was like looking through a toilet paper roll except the sides made everything look like warp speed—all streaky. I imagine that I had a concussion of some sort, but just decided to pack it up & head home. Had a sprained ankle the next morning, too... that was my last lesson for about 9 years, until I got my first horse a couple years ago.
I've also bailed off a horse that I was riding bareback that started galloping—I had one hand buried in his mane (so I could balance without squeezing him), the other was trying to stop him—he was taking the corners of the arena so fast that I was afraid I'd go off the side of him into the wall. Did a total faceplant and wrenched my knee. Also had to bail off a cranky TB mare at my barn's show... she had had enough kids on her all day that she took off on me twice (blowing the class for me, ha ha), then finally launched into a bucking/running fit. Full jump course set up, too. I must've looked comical, trying to steer her clear of the jumps as she was bucking! When I finally bailed and looked up, everyone had a horrified look and it was dead quiet (she was standing still, as I still had the reins in hand)... I stood up and said, "If I knew I was riding in a rodeo today, I would've worn my chaps"... it made everyone laugh and softened my embarrassment...
In college, I rode a friend's pony over a couple jumps—she told me how easy he was. And he almost killed me... he needed a much better rider than me to handle him. It was in front of a bunch of teammates, too. I went into the barn and cried at how badly I did with him. It's tough... riding isn't always an uphill climb... sometimes you level off and can't seem to get any better, sometimes you regress. But you'll get there, don't worry!

Lol, I know exactly what you're talking about with the messed up vision - I lost most of my peripheral vision and the little bit I had left, had parts of the landscape rotating and twirling and swirling around - the EMT I saw at college got mad at me for refusing to go to the emergency room, until the Wellness Center sent me there 2 days later. I'm glad you got back in the saddle, and I'm hoping to take another lesson soon. I just wish it wasn't this weekend that I had to go to NJ, but my step brother's getting sent to Iraq and he leaves in a week to go to TX beforehand.

Will do! I still can't believe he's being sent over there... from what I've heard, he'll be paratrooping into Iraq, knocking down doors and such, in 4 person squads... he was one of my closest friends when we were younger too.
JonR (or others), I'm not really good with pedigrees, although I've done some digging around on hers and can usually tell you which horses are decent in pedigrees, but I'm curious to find out what you can tell me about Babe's pedigree. I'm not familiar with the various rating systems and other indicators of successful pedigrees. Also, thanks for the continued responses and opinions

Well, I was forced to shrink the pictures to a quarter of their original size, just because my bandwidth is restricted on my website, so here are some pictures also from May 28th, which came off my uncle's camera just before I left for NJ for a few days... (the last image is at 50% size, part of one of the other pictues)

Fortunately at this point in Babe's life you don't really need to be. Hadn't been back to this post for a while and see that you received an overwhelming bunch of responses for pedigree help since then.
I am no expert, but I'll tell you what I can.
Radio Star is reported deceased in 2003. I do not know what his misfortune was though. It looks as though he may have had two foal crops before he passed away. He is currently #52 on the 2006 second crop sires list. He is the son of two Grade 1 Stakes winners. Storm Cat is standing in KY for 500K. Andover Way, his dam is also the dam of Dynaformer making him half brother to Radio Star. Dynaformer was the sire of Barbaro Kentucky Derby winner this year, so Babe has a famous half cousin out there. babe hails from the #2 female tail family and you can read more about that lineage at this website http://www.tbheritage.com/HistoricDams/ ... mily2.html
You and I is the broodmare sire of Babe. He currently stands in WA for 5K. He has had one big runner, You with over 2 mill in earning and then several 100+ type horses. He is not on the broodmare sires list, but mabe in a couple of years some of his daughters will produce a runner for him.
The other numbers you might see on her pedigree really aren't that important, but there are links from this website from the homepage if you desire to understand her GSV or dosage index. Check under the help tab reading pedigrees.
