I don't think your crazy. I know they do! I hope she recognises us and home. It is quiet here, lots of grass and friends. It will hopefully not take her long to relax and return to her old self.
Its so sad, when she came to us she was just a horse, no personality and didn't seem to understand why we were fussing over her. She finally started enjoying the attention and TLC, and was coming out of her shell. Only to have that all ripped away. I have been crying since I found out. Actually, I am right now. Its been tough. I just don't understand how people can be so callus with another living creature.

We live in a disposable society. Too easy to shrug off responsibility and commitment. I recently composed a page of pictures of some other very lucky horses-

And a bit of a longer list, although by no means, complete-

I reside 20 minutes from one of the NY killpens.

Twinlights,

Hopefully, Misty's return home was un-eventful and no worse for the wear and I imagine, a great relief to you! Please post an update, would love to know how she's doing- she's had a bit of a tough go the past couple weeks! Thanks!

Misty update

Postby twinlights » Wed Aug 08, 2007 3:50 am

Here is your update.
She arrived yesterday afternoon, very tired but alert, very thirsty and hungry, covered in rain rot, and very thin (but could have been worse.)
Alan, the man who volunteered to pick her up in Palmer MA and deliver her here said she perked up as soon as he pulled onto our dirveway. (he has video in his trailer). When we put her out she had a big drink, a roll in the new sand in the shed, walked once around her old paddock, then went back in the shed for some dinner. She also enjoyed some TLC from my hubby as soon as he got home, he went right to her, called her name and she came running. She remembers!
Here are photos, lots of them.

Twinlights-

Wonderful pics, and you can bet, her future would've been much worse! Hopefully, she'll pick up the needed weight quickly and begin to thrive again. Takes a bit of time from being stressed and tossed around, but after a good worming and TLC she should blossom again.

I'm just so very glad all the dots got connected and she's once again, safe. Thank you!

She had a guardian angel. That is the only thing I can come up with. Every time she was sold, she got further away, and looked less and less like the horse she was. With all the thousands of horses that go to auction every week in this country how did this one find her way back.
Its because of people like you, Christy at AC4H and her people, Beth at NEER and her people, and someone who found an ad that had her name as the dam of a colt for sale and made that contact. She was a needle in a hay stack. But we found her!
As soon as the weather gets good she is in for a good bath. She needs to be wormed. But otherwise (so far) seems to be in good health and definaately in good spirits. No cuts, no sign of abuse (other than not feeding) and her personality is still in tact.
Everytime someone goes near the fence she comes running.
But when I see her all I want to do is cry.
I have been getting her story out there, hopefully it will make people more aware of what actually happens to these horses.
This one is ok now.

Definately a lucky mare- in contrast- a great many ottbs were cast to the killbuyers yesterday, all I can do is pray their ends comes swiftly and the operator of the captive bolt gun is a good shot. Mexico is whole different ballgame.... horrific....
