I have been giving her probios in the paste form to make sure she gets it. i have painted everything i can with crib halt. She cribs on the gate and on the water trough. I really don't want to put that stuff on the water trough. She doesn't bother the wood fence b/c I put hot wire along it. I coated her stall with crib halt and it honestly does not stop her any. She is not a very dominant horse. I lock her in the roundpen to feed her and she doesn't mind being by herself. She has a buddy that waits outside the pen for her. TO top this all off, I think I may have forgotten to mention, that the mare has fractured her jaw 2 times in the past. She was taken to MI state and they couldn't do much. This is many years before I owned her. The previous owner never put a collar or anything on her, so what I believe is that she was allowed to crib non-stop and that is how she fractured it. I have not owned her very long. She is from a barn where I worked and she is extremly well bred. She was not eating much at all then b/c she was allowed to crib. I felt something had to be done before the mare died. you all are probably wondering why I even took her and so do I sometimes. But I will fix her up. The earliest the vet can come out is the end of this week or early next week. I will let everyone know what he says. I have a list of questions and remedies from everyone on here that I will be showing to him.
As far as it being a habit, I believe by now it would be part habit, but originating from discomfort.
Thanks
CRIBBER
