It looked like Pyro and Big Truck couldn't handle the surface at all, neither getting ahold of the track and not showing a thing in the stretch. I still can't get a real handle on these surfaces. I'm hoping for a much better showing on real dirt at Churchill. It's really hard to figure out why these good horses throw in such clunkers. I think I will toss this race out and look for a better race in May. Always optomistic.

Glad as always to hear your opinion Bill. Some highly head scratching results this year.

A lot of races with lines through them for various reasons, don't you think?

That's really my basic problem for the Derby. Which races from the prep. list can one confidently keep in as being likely to be truly formful?

The San Felipe is the only one that springs to my mind as not having some kind of problem associated. Perhaps the Santa Anita Derby too. The Southwest looked good through the Rebel and now that form has fallen apart also.
