when we picked up Honour attendant from the prevoious trainer he was handled by a special groom paid extra and always with a lip chain and after having him for a few weeks my then 15 yo daughter was riding him all over the place in a snaffle and he never needed more than a regular rope lead anymore....he was a puppy....
The sport and industry survive not only because of the champions that are remembered forever but also because of the losers that are so easy to forget...

My avatar is my mare Summer. My friend rescued her when she answered a horse for sale ad for $200 and found this rack of bones. She was wild as the wind. I have NO idea how this mare ended up in the backwoods of NW FL but it probably wasn't a good way! Anyway, besides being starved she'd obviously been abused. At my friend's she was no longer abused but was still very defensive and then learned that she could push people around by putting on her big bad horse act. So she then went through a kind of benign neglect. She wasn't ridden because she bucked, she didn't get her feet done because she kicked, etc.
When I got her she was a mess and had someone who didn't know TBs or ws the bullying type got her I have no doubt she'd turn into a killer or hurt someone bad. She learned to fight first, ask questions later. It took a long time but now she's as gentle as can be. (she still bucks at the canter though but now we know she has a back/hind leg problem). So I wouldn't be shocked if in the right hands a lot of "killer stallions' would be just fine.
It is a horse's natural behavior to take charge if they can just like in a herd. I fthey live alone YOU are their herd so you have to be the alpha mare/stallion all in one. But TBs and Arabs and Akhal Tekes (and even WBs) are sensitive and you have to know when to demand and when to ask nicely...
