I know it's a bit early....

But I'm planning for '07. I bought Lady Bomb, who is currently in foal to an Illinois stallion named Diazo. I originally bought her for Rocking Trick but in analyzing her family, I came across an interesting fact. Her full sister, Jaguar Meadow, produced the SW filly, Jaguar City, who won $304K+ in 19 starts over three years, when bred to Slew City Slew.

This begs the question. Would Lady Bomb x Slew City Slew be considered a commercial mating, even though SCS is not considered a commercial stallion? What might Lady Bomb bring at KEENOV breeding stock sale in foal to SCS? What would the Lady BombxSCS foal bring as a weanling/yearling? I know this is all very subjective but I would be very interested in getting opinions on this.

She won $42K or so, out of an $89K winner with some nice black type littering around in the family. She has ankles but ia a really nice mare.

Slew City Slew is a very good breed to race sire, but he's really a hard sell in the ring. In 2005, one weanling offered which went for $2,500 and was out of the mare Rulina.

His yearlings aren't much better with a median of $8,500 in 2005 and 12 sold from 14 offered. The high being a colt out of Cry Me a River ($43,000 KEESEPT) and the low being a filly out of Reconcile ($1500 LOUOCT). With 2 yearlings sold from three offered this year, he's had a high of $10,500 (c. Moment of Grace) and a low of $1,500 (f. Rulina).

Broodmares he's bit better given the shortened time to sale. In 2005, he sold two in foal with a high of $36,000 (Silver Trainor) and a low of $6,000 for Rulina. 2006 has 7 offered with 5 sold and a median of $12,000, a high of $20,000 (Shimmering Palatte) and a low of $2,500 (So Soft Suzy).

Its kind of a toss up with this mare. Her female family is pretty solid but she's 13 and has had one minor winner (granted she wasn't seeing Storm Cat) and she's got nothing but regional foals in the pipeline. There's blacktype but a lot of its regional (I'm looking at a 2003 catalog page on a half sister so I'm fessing my info is not up to date) until you get to her very salty graded stakes producing third dam. I think she maybe could produce a commercial foal ... but she's going to need more help from the stallion than Slew City Slew is willing to give at this point. Now breed to race and I'd be all over it

Would it be cost-effective to ship out of KY to sell the foal? Slew City Slews have sold pretty well in the NW.

Thanks for the responses.. I can be breed to race also, so, like said, I'm all over it. Maybe sell a 2yo?

He did get a $200,000 (or $150,000 I'm fuzzy) 2yo this year. It was the Cry Me A River colt that went for $43,000 as a yearling. Not a bad little pinhook there.

I think SCS could do a lot for this mare if you were to run the foal and you can always take it to the sale and put a reserve on it and run it if you don't get what you want. :D

hi madelyn

Correct me if I'm wrong...but I sense that you love your Rocking Trick and are working diligently to offer him the best opportunity you can to enhance his chances for success as a sire.

That said...I ask...why not breed Lady Bomb to your big guy? Are seeds of doubt seeping in and possibly undermining your passion and commitment to Rocking Trick? Are you not pleased with and/or are you concerned or have issues with what you are seeing in the way of RT foals? If not...I say Lady Bomb should visit Rocking Trick in 2007.

Who knows...Rocking Trick might deliver everything you hope and dream for...and a prospective superstar might be a resultant foal by him from Lady Bomb.

Yes...when glancing at the catalogue page many might recognize the success of the Slew City Slew mating to Jaguar Meadow (Lady Bomb's full-sister), but I don't sense that Lady Bomb in foal to Slew City Slew would necessarily have a WOW affect on her prospective sales price at auction.

Maybe your decision to breed Lady Bomb to Slew City Slew or Rocking Trick should come down to name possibilities. Would you prefer a Slew Bomb or a Tricky Bomb...or maybe a City Lady versus a Rockin Lady

Best to you.

Respectfully

I would not put all the eggs in one basket either, far too risky.
One mare less can not be harmful to him
