Is this mare worth buying?

Postby Camish » Thu Nov 09, 2006 7:15 pm

My friend is not computer savvy :D and wanted me to post this for her. She is considering purchasing a mare by the name of College Class. She is a 1997 model by General Meeting out of a Hostage mare, Art College. They are asking $600 for her or $2,000 with the 2007 foal she is carrying by Frisk me Now. Is she a good deal to produce race foals? What's everyone's thoughts on her? Thanks!

I'd say that's a great deal. Art College was a runner. TONS of blacktype.

Do you know what kind of race record she had?

According to the APR, College Class started 10 times over two years with a record of 0-0-0, and earned $749 (maybe a fourth place). She apparently tried a lot, sprint, route, slop.

Dam Art College:

North America Muddy/Sloppy 2 1 0 1 39,200 ( 97)

was far and away the best horse in her family.

Note she won her first stakes at age five and was certainly a hard knocking mare. Bearing in mind that the purchase price is only the beginning, if your friend is breeding to RACE this mare might be a good deal but she is NOT her mother. Breeding to sell, I'd pass.

I agree with Madelyn... whoever said there was a ton of black type in this pedigree? The dam was a good runner and won quite a few races, some graded events too. However, as a family, not a lot of production.
