I am really interested in this broodmare, young, i/f to the hottest young freshman. But, is the $30k price tag too much for this mare???
Please advise. Mare is named Hakkaan.

Posse's stud fee is $12,500. The mare's female side doesn't support anywhere near a tag of $30,000. I wouldn't say that she is appropriately priced... just my opinion.

Perhaps research sale prices of mares in foal to Posse, determine what you feel a fair price is for her, and contact the sellers to see if they will negotiate...Price does seem high to me as well, but I did notice there were several horses in her female line who earned their 100K the hard way so there might be some soundness there.

Mare advice
Thanks so much for your thoughts...since I can't afford the stakes winners/producers, I'm just trying to find a youngish broodmare and it's hard-I'm never quite sure...
Thanks for all thoughts!

PM to Foggy
PM'd you, Foggy!
If your looking to hit a lick on Posse, I dont hink this is the way. He is very hot right now so now is the time to cash in on an investment with Posse IMO. By the time you have a foal to sell as a weanling or yearling he probley will be leveled off and was yesterdays news and then your stuck with struggling to get back your 30k and just have a very common mare to show for it. Timing is everything.

Posse
By "a share in Posse" then, you mean a stallion share? How do you find out about those/if they even exist?
Ah TB Dreamin.. might be better to spend $25K and buy scubaotterfrog's Posse weanling, and take the other $5K and pick up some nice open mares.
Today's hot sire is tomorrow's ho hum horse.
This brings to mind a gal who visited me earlier this year.. she was trying to unload a couple of babies she had, one by Malabar Gold (or Malabar COLD, if you like) and another by Lost Soldier, which she gushed reverently in talking about her colt. And she had signed full price contracts to those stallions. She most likely will lose her shirt. The time to have had a Lost Soldier was when Lost in the Fog was headlining.. she snapped to attention when we passed by the stall where my new Street Cry filly was standing.
What makes this business so freakish is that you cannot anticipate what will be hot, as a breeder. It's two years to get a yearling. Who would have thought that the hot horses this year would be Street Cry and Posse?
I think this is one of the reasons that mares in foal to freshman sires generally bring more than their current market value at auction. I have one this year, in foal to Osidy.. I hope he hits. However you look at it, this is a crapshoot business.

So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Remember,
Always pay for the mare you are buying, and not for the colt she is carrying.
You can't really move a mare up in price by breeding to so and so.
She is what she is, and will bring the value of the baby down to her level.
