Half Ours
Rok, can't wait to hear your review on this boy. The press release raved about all his sales accomplishments- and his racing career- and all the money his family is bringing at the sales. Did I forget to mention he had a racing career. And, and that his offspring should bring big numbers at the sales.

An early breakdown that Pletcher couldn't squeeze a Grade 1 out of before he broke down again....not my cup o'tea. Our dear friend at a certain farm will no doubt write things that are more favorable.

go to the http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/ page and look at the very top at the half ours banner...since when does winning a maiden go into your accomplishments?

A great stallion for the breeder looking for a horse capable of making MAYBE 2 starts per year.
I love his page on Taylor Made's site. Pletcher saying Half Ours "did everything so effortlessly". Amazing how he kept breaking down without exerting himself.
BUT, he "sold" back to his previous owners for $6.1 Million. And, his brother went for $1.7 Million as a weanling.
Sounds great to me, I'll take 2 seasons!

i think taylor made might be one of the worst outfits there is right now. the prices they have with forestry is laughable, and I think they are grossly over estimating how much half ours is worth. he could run a little, but just that.. a little. there are at least 30 more sires out there with better families that hvae won grade 1's that are just as cheap if not cheaper than what he's going to be. I see a 15k fee already. way too high

I agree, Taylor Made is just milking all they can out of the breeders. The only way to respond is to not pay their fees.
Forestry at $125K is probably the most rediculous price on the market. And with Unbridled's Song, Officer ($40K???) and now Half Ours; they are cornering the market in soundness issues.

Now, wait a minute - I've had my disagreements with our friend, the good Mr. Brogers, but I wouldn't think to criticize his employer nor the TM operation. That's not called for.
TM does an excellent job for what it is - a commerical farm. It charges the fees it does because there's a market demand for the foals sired by the TM stallions. If TM charges $125,000 for a fee and the breeder/shareholder can sell a foal by that sire for $500,000, TM has done its job.
Does the farm do a great job overpromoting their stallions? Yes. Do the shareholders breed their stallions to broodmares with "page" vs possible potential? Yes. Does TM hype a stallion based on sales averages? Yes. But, I would argue, that's TM's job - and TM does it as well or better than anyone in the business.
Nobody twists the arm of a bidder to buy a TM Bred horse or one by a TM sire. Lord knows that I'm no fan of Forestry - but if my intention in this game is to pay $125,000 to breed my mare to him for the purpose of selling the foal for $400,000, and the foal brings that number, I would have nothing but praise of TM. And, to that end, I'm sure that there are many happy clients.
TM is the breeder of one of my alltime favorite mares - Sky Beauty. So, a darn good racehorse can come off that farm. But if you understand TM's business plan and what TM accomplishes year after year, the place does its job very, very well.
I can't believe I've just defended TM - I must need a psychiatrist. But breeders do use their stallions because they're happy with sales results. If you don't like a foal by a TM stallion, don't buy it - that's all there is to it.

yeah I guess you are right roke.. it's not their fault people are lining up to pay 125k per live foal for a sprinter who isn't very durable. It's a breeders job to look for what's value and what's not value.
with that said... I love tiznow, is they are doing something right. however I doubt his fee stays "reasonable" very much longer.

I think Tiznow is doing just fine these days compared to a few others in his "crop". He's 30th on the leading sire list with 5 stakes winners this year and second on the leading third crop sires list behind Broken Vow.
Granted most of the sires on the third crop list aren't doing exceptionally well, and they were conceived in the year that most probably didn't want to breed to them, but he's turning into a good sire. Not spectacular, but he's shown that he can get runners.
