Japanese racing???

Postby jacksontyger » Fri Nov 23, 2007 5:08 pm

Do they breed their own or import alot of their racehorses. What are the opportunities in Japan for United States bred horses? My filly just sold to Japanese interests. Thanks for any info. JT

I iwll try to answer the question the best I can.

I love JRA racing.. it doesn't come on much here, but whenever I can get it I woouldn't miss it for th eworld. best racing on earth if you ask me.

anyway, actually, kinda both. they for the most part, bred their own, but their own are pretty much deritives of ours.

For instance, Sunday silence is to Asian Racing what Mr. P is to American Racing. Dance in the dark (I love that name). The best sires, all of which I can think of from Japan, are american bred or are sires of american bred horses.

Admire moon is by End Sweep (usa bred) out of a sunday silence mare

Deep Impact is by Sunday Silence

However, there are certain "familes" who are extremely popular in the US that are sold to the japanese.. Sunday Silence's family, Circular Quay's family. Curlin's family has some that have been somewhat successful in japan.

I would imainge anything with halo in it would be popular from a JRa perspective, just like anythhing with northern dancer would be popular down under and in europe

I had a chance to go to the races in Tokyo--what a blast--couldn't speak the language, had to convert meters to furlongs to make out the distances, got a program and couldn't read Kanji, so all I could make out was the sires names (for some strange reason, a LOT were printed in english alphabet and from the US) and each entries' earnings in Yen, so I had to handicap that way all day!!!

There was a great piece on TVG about a large training center in Japan, so if you can catch that, you'll get a good idea of their program.

How do you find information in english about their racing and breeding program. My stallion's half brother is a third crop stallion in Japan and he is throwing an incredible number of winners and high caliber race horses. I would very much like to learn more but I can't find anything to read in english. Is there a forum, website, or media outlet where they use english as the primary language? thanks in advance if you can help out.
best regards Brendan

TJ, I did see the other thread and left you a post there. I was looking for more information from other board members who posted on this thread. We must be on-line at the same time. I will go back to the other thread and see if you responded to my last post under the other thread. Thanks for your help.
best regards Brendan
