Did any of you get to see many of his offspring? He got off to a good start at stud ( Rivalero, Tap Shoes, Expressive Dance, Blitey, Idyll) and then fizzled. What happened? Was there a soundness problem?

He sired 29 stakes winners from about 350 foals. Later stakes winners included Encolure, You're No Bargain, Hedgeabout, Portio, Alada (earlier stakes winner), Cerada Ridge, Rocky Marriage, The Red Rolls, Favoridge (In Europe), Rhus... If you look through predigree query at Riva Ridge's progeny you'll see he didn't get great quality mares later on. Doesn't help either that he died at 16  .

Concerns about his fertility.

But weren't there concerns about Secretariat's fertility too? They both retired at the same time. I think it was that they had immature sperm at first.

Riva Ridge was a "shy breeder". He just didn't have that strong a libido. Sometimes when he went to the breeding shed, he just wasn't interested in covering mares.
